Combative Negotiations
I’ve seen a lot of screenshots and samples of combative counters to offers and responses to recruiters. While the frustration and anger is certainly warranted, it can be counterproductive if you still have an interest in working with that organization. Coming out in an argumentative way triggers a psychological fight response in the counter party that increases the likelihood they’ll push back or write you off, rather than acquiesce to your demands, or even consider finding a middle ground. There are times when it’s completely a lost cause, or their offer/behavior indicates they’re not a company you’d want to be a part of. In those cases, by all means, give them a good f*ck you and dressing down. I’m particularly inspired by some of the blunt resignation messages shared in here. That sort of reality check is needed by so many employers. But if you want a counter offer and…
Ended up starting a new job. Was really excited because there was a lot of good benefits. I have a 500 dollar sign on bonus if i stay for 90 days and no call offs. Was told during the interview that if I was not feeling good to at least show up to work and I will be sent home in like two hours and it would look good and show that I actually made a attempt. Should have taken that as a red flag immediately. Started the job. Mind you I was working around food and where i work most of our customers were elderly. I have observed for my first few days a couple of people working while being really sick. One of them threw up all over the bathroom and still continued to work. I woke up the one morning not feeling the best. I went in…
Should I quit?
I work in retail in particular a alcohol shop and every shift is utter hell. I have no support from the supermarket attached including security who does nothing.. and constantly turns a blind eye and a store manager who seems to detest me and constantly gives me weird looks. Just 2 hours ago I had a woman verbally abuse me and walk out with a 30 dollar bottle of wine and when I went on my 15 minute break after the store manager starts berating me why I didn't call the police..I'm supposed to do everything myself and make a report on my break? Should I report him? Should I quit and find another job? I'm so clueless and this is one of my first ever jobs I have no clue how to improve these kinds of processes within my role and I just want to not feel like crap…
The principal just want to go home early
Title's pretty much the post. I work quasi-full-time as a teacher in a country with a lower cost of living than the U.S. but still a first world country. I say quasi-full-time because I only work 25hrs a week or so, but it isn't expected that you'd be able to do another teaching job on top of it or anything. I've been working at this place for over two years now. When I started working at this place, we were promised a 45$/month raise every year we stuck with the company. That's pretty much the bare minimum accounting for inflation. Covid rolled around and nobody got raises last year. Now this year they asked me how much I wanted for a raise, to which I replied about $130 to account for the two year's worth of raises I haven't gotten, and a general job well done. Admin told me to…
Chairs are only for hurt people?
One of my coworkers is on light duty working cuz they hurt themselves. As a result they are just putting clips on parts all day. Because they're hurt they get to sit in a chair while they do it. Other coworkers have asked if they could also sit in a chair since they're doing the exact same job and it's obviously possible to do sitting. They were told no because “he only gets to sit because he's injured. If you're not injured we need to make sure you look like you're being productive and it would also not be fair to the people not currently in that job.” I don't understand why this matters!! If the job can get done at the same pace (or honestly faster since you won't be in pain from bending over so much) then why cant they let people sit?? I don't even do the…
Sometime in 2020 I worked at a Togos (basically Subway but exclusive to the West Coast, mainly California) Now this place sucked. I was being paid minimum wage at an understaffed, falling apart Togos. The GM is this old neurotic lady whose been extremely exploited by the owner, who was the biggest POS. Would name drop him but I think doxxing is against the rules or something. The AM was this angsty, pseudointellectual stoner whose first thing he said to me was “This job ruins relationships” in a pissed off tone. He didn't like me for a while and this story is mostly about him. I have work boundaries, one is no physical contact, I have been groped at work before. Nowadays I also don't do threats, at all. Even vaguely threatening things get called out. Another is that you don't fuck with my hours. I don't work more than…
