Employers read this like, ” Make me your prisoner, make me your slave. matter of fact, I'm ready to die for your company.”

I've been working for my parents for a year, doing a job I really don't like. We've finally gotten enough employees. I'm now on-call instead of working full time. I don't like the dynamic working for my parents has created. They've given me permission to start job searching since I'm now on-call. And whenever I get a new job I can quit working for them. I'm thinking of looking for data entry jobs. I like the sound of that. But I don't know if they're truly entry level jobs, as I've never done that type of work before and I'd need to be fully trained. If I can't get a desk job like that maybe a stocker at a store? I don't want a super social job. Besides those I can't think of any other jobs to look for. Any advice?

Work sent us home during COVID. Work is now bringing us back. Work is INFESTED with cockroaches… NOT “Oh, there’s one in the bathroom” or “Oh, saw a dead one earlier.” No, I’m talking you walk in and they’re crawling on your fucking keyboard. They haven’t brought me back to the office yet but it’s only a matter of time. I cannot be working somewhere with roaches crawling around my fingertips. What are our options? Our rights? This, to me, is unacceptable. Seems like the definition of unsafe working conditions, considering the diseases those things carry. Does anyone know anyone or personally has experienced a negative outcome from not giving two weeks or whatever the equivalent may be for your job?

I live in London, UK, and while we have more protections at work than you guys in the US, I’m fucking done. Fortunately, my parents aren’t the average “boomers” and understand how hard it is for my generation. They bought this house of my grandparents for around £50,000 in the eighties – collectively they earned around £18,000. It’s now worth £650,000…. I have no chance in hell of keeping the house that’s been in my family for generations – the average salary (2021) was £25,971. I’ve always wanted a small camper for adventures, but I’m now looking for a proper motorhome (RV) just to be able to afford to live.

So for context, I live and work in a small town (12k population) and am employed at the lumber mill. This is a pretty huge company that has locations dotted around the US. They have just started a new promotion about mental health. They say if an employee spends up to 300$ on something that makes them happy and/or improves thier mental health, they will reimburse it on your next check. Lots of us have already put in for it regardless of weather we actually bought anything or not. They don't actually require any proof when you submit the form so people are claiming they are doing things like “taking a trip to the coast to recharge” and I'm all about it. I did plan on spending a bunch of money on clothes and shoes this week but since I'm getting reimbursed I might get a tattoo done while I'm…

For example bank commercials. You'll see people advocating for it, telling us they're a bank that cares because they give some kind of money back.. they don't care. They are doing it because they want to appeal to the population to join their bank. They don't actually care about you getting the money back. They don't really care that much about helping. It's all for business. So don't be fooled thinking they do.
