Hey all, I hope you're all doing well. I really just needed to vent because today didn't go as planned. So I recently learned that I'd become the new assistant manager at my job, per an interview I had with my new GM just last week. I've been working harder than everybody else & have worked consistently, without question, outperforming my job duties because of my passion for my career, and making sure my co workers have a comfortable work day. I really do love what I do & the great people I work with. However, due to my inability to keep this information to myself, I got pulled into my bosses office this morning & was essentially ridiculed for 5 minutes about the consequences of telling my co workers that I was being considered for the promotion, but that it wasn't guaranteed. I left that sit down very, very…
Boss hyped a negligible raise
I’ve been working at my job for a few months. I started with a “probationary salary” that they said would be adjusted for So my boss sat me down at the end of my probation and was telling me I’m doing great and they’ve seen huge improvements since I began running this group, and that I would be getting my wage adjusted accordingly (I also didn’t get an annual adjustment this year because I was still on probation). He said that he hoped the raise helped me live the way and want kept talking it up it up like the wage increase was going to be significant. The raise was roughly 1/3rd of the inflation rate. I wouldn’t have even been mad about this because they pay me fine, but I was rattled at how much he made it seem like this was a gift.
So I’ve worked at a company for a year and some change now, and have not touched any of my various categories of paid time off. I have about 160 hours saved up. Can I get fired for using it all before I leave my company in June? (Bad decision by my part – but they know I’m leaving then).
This is gonna sound stupid considering how much worse other peoples situations are. But it's so hard to improve at things outside of work when you are stuck working a full time job. I love playing chess and during the last week I had time off work, my rating went up over 100 points and I could concentrate and played really well. Get back to work and I'm losing all my games again because I'm tired and stressed when I get back home. My wife loves watching movies and writing reviews and articles but she hasn't done any of that since going full time. What's the point of working if you can't really enjoy the things that you actually enjoy doing.
The EARN IT act is a nightmare
The EARN IT act is a nightmare for everyone, it is an amendment to the law which destroys the basic idea of privacy on the internet. Just another example of big tech abusing all of the money they have. It’s only a matter of time until people protesting working conditions, organizing strikes or union attempts, or anyone getting in the way of the agendas of the ultra rich start getting doxxed and disappearing. This country is starting to look like a dystopian society more and more every day. We have to stop this to try and preserve the last shreds of privacy we have. This is the hill to die on.
We were shopping today at a local chain, retail store. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The store was very busy. Chatting with the 2 staff on cash and they said that “due to staffing issues”, they were the only 2 booked for the entire day. I encouraged them to lock the doors and take their lunch breaks. They were concerned about getting in trouble if their boss found out. I reminded them they didn't create the shortage and they were entitled to eat their lunch! Hopefully they did lock the doors. Both were super employees and deserved better.
