What do we do? Be like Buckston!
I've been following this sub and similar ones, finally seeing the feelings I've been having expressed by so many other people! Isn't there a way we can work together to figure out some source of semi passive income that all of us can partake in? How is it that the only way for us to make a dollar is to work a shit job, but Buckston Bernard III (fictional son of an old money daddy big bucks) makes $12,000 a day in profit from the 2% share of the family business he got the day he was born and didn't do a single thing for it. How can we put all our actual and underpaid talents together and figure out how to build a money machine like all these old white guys have?– if they can do it, I know we can! So– I know I'm working on it, and…
my first antiwork post
why tf is all work so demanding nowadays? i feel like all the more simple jobs have disappeared and if a job is easy enough to do, it's physically very demanding. the ones that aren't demanding physically or have shifts in some really shitty hours are very responsible ones where you have to be able to do a bunch of stuff and i'm just so over it. my employers and my job seemed really chill in the beginning, but i'm starting to feel that the job is too responsible for me and when i underperform i can't wrap my head around why everyone gets so mad.. no one will die if i do my job poorly. i have started resenting the thought of working any job altogether, having to use more than 8 hours of my day representing a company and their values, that's not freedom
I’ve had a really shitty job hunt since last year. Of the 200+ applications I’ve put in only half a dozen have turned into interviews. Recently I’ve gotten the opportunity to work for a NGO that I’ve always wanted to work for. The problem is they’re set like absolutely set on $15/hr which here in NYS has been the minimum wage for a few years already. In other words my specialized skills are not being recognized because again it’s an NGO so to them $15 is the pay rate across the country. With that in mind it’s well above the south states that are still at $7.50. I’m wondering if it’s even worth losing healthcare over a job that won’t be able to afford my rent. It’s $31k Annually. After taxes it’s roughly $22k. My rent alone is $20k. That’s just $2 thousand dollars for the rest of the entire…
Just watched the first two episodes of AppleTV+’s new series called ‘Severance’ which is a thriller about a group of workers whose memories and identities inside of work are kept separate and hidden from those outside of work. I was struck by how this seemingly shocking condition mirrors quite closely the plight of the ordinary laborer. Without giving too much away, the characters have experiences necessitated by their employer that, at first glance, seem bizarre and dubious but quickly reveal themselves to be more and more unethical, humiliating, manipulative, dangerous, punitive, and harmful. They also reveal themselves to be more and more familiar, commonplace, ubiquitous, and quotidian. The tension between these two states exposes the mundane banality of the insidious oppression inherent in the modern subjects experience of labor. As the distance between a worker and the fruits of their labor grows, so grows the ability of corporations to dehumanize…

Node in a network
We’re all connected as a node in this shitty network and there’s no way out for you. Even if you are unemployed we will keep harvesting your data and work that you do by continual monitoring and complete control of your day to day actions. We might even find a way to steal your thoughts because we just love slavery so much Thanks 1984. My old workplace said I’m bitter and I said they misunderstood. Apparently I need to prove they are right before they release the clutches
