American dream
I'll say it again: “Sex Work is Work” is a terrible take that ignores the colonial and imperalist nature of the sex trade. Sex trade is at its core hierarchical, classist and racist, with an inescapable connection to trafficing: 90% of the women and children in the sex trade in the US is bipoc and poor, and most of them are in the trade out of economic desperation and/or being forced, not of choice. To quote the historian Gerda Lerner: “The exchange of women was the first form of trade, making them seen as less than human. This division is the beginning of women's subordination at the hands of men.” With colonization came seing women's bodies as an open resource. In order to conquer the land, colonizers had to conquer the women. This is a model that has been replicated all over the world. Imperialism, colonialism and the sex trade…
When a dream job isn’t sustainable
For context, Formula One has so much money flowing through the sport, its partners, the sanctioning body and the teams. Top teams have had nearly half-billion dollar budgets, although new cost caps will reduce that to around $150M per year. And and experienced and skilled engineer can't afford to commute to his DREAM JOB. https://formula1news.co.uk/mclaren-f1-employee-quits-due-to-fuel-price-surge-mercedes-engineer-also-hit-hard/
As Nobel as each post maybe, it still falls into the main United States problem- “individualism”. When the whole anti work movement, is supposed to be the collective. It’s more of funny personal stories of how someone quit, or depressing outlooks of college grads living paycheck to paycheck. It’s all just individuals sharing stuff. It also outlines a big problem, a movement needs a peaceful side and a more not so peaceful side. MLK wouldn’t be at the table if it wasn’t for the threat of Malcom X and the Black Panthers. Nelson Mandela wouldn’t of been at the table if it wasn’t for the ANC, and their tactics. Same with the Sinn Fein if they weren’t associated with the IRA. Same goes for the labor movement, and veterans from war. It wouldn’t mean shit without the battle of Blair Mountain, Ludlow, the bonus army and so on. People willing…
Now I’m unemployed! Is this illegal? Signed an offer letter and did all the paperwork, drug test, background check, got uniforms and even a phone. 4 days before my first day they changed their mind because of my background check. (A misdemeanor from 2015 smh..) I told their HR person this was absurd and they can’t do this to people. Absolutely no remorse whatsoever. Company is LMG Event Technology
Good morning lovely people of r/antiwork, Today I am working with a kidney infection, on a holiday, because I work in healthcare. Every other major office or hospital system is shut, but not us. We stay open for everything. My soon to be fiancé is dead asleep because he has a Union. Last week, he only worked 3 days because he’s allowed to take off whenever he wants with no penalty! Amazing to me, as someone who has to work with a kidney infection, in order to take our vacation to Italy this fall, as we do not get sick days. A vacation staffing is still arguing with me about, because how dare I take 2 consecutive weeks off, even though it’s allowed per the employee manual. No worries, next spring I graduate and will be leaving the national embarrassment that is healthcare. My company still thinks I’m going to…
