I am a ophthalmic technician working at a private practice, making $17.50 an hour. The practice is great, the doctors are all mostly pretty nice and I get along okay with most of the staff. The benefits suck (I have a $3600 deductible) hilariously we don't even get vision insurance… At the ophthalmologist. Teslas don't pay for themselves, you know, and Harvard for two kids isn't cheap, no way they could afford the $25k it would probably cost to give the entire staff vision insurance, lol. There is a big corporate hospital a few minutes closer to home, however, that lists my job CONSTANTLY with the pay listed as between $19-$31 an hour. They pay for your training and will actually teach you more advanced skills, like giving retinal injections for example that lead to a bump in pay. The benefits are much, much better. I could afford to go…
My job laid my team and then me off.
I was a bag checker in a lab for COVID-19 samples in NYC schools. I started around the end of January. I loved the job and the people I worked with. But the place I worked for started laying people off or moving them to different departments. I worked only there for almost a month before they decide to lay me off. Then again, the company had a bunch of 1 star reviews about the company and it’s management or lack of. I just ignored it at the time because I needed the money. But knowing what I know now, I should have listened. What do I do now?
“Creative” resume work history
You just create a Google business account. You then get yourself a Google VoIP P# with the appropriate area code and put that as the contact. If you really want to give it a sense of legitimacy, create a few Gmail accounts and give the business a rating… also rate a few other real businesses and don't rate the same real businesses with the same fake profiles. This sounds very complicated, but it really only takes about two hours. The great thing about attaching the phone numbers to Google business pages is that the caller ID will show up as the business name. More than likely they won't even bother checking if you seem capable and interview well. I had applied to a ton of different places and wasn't getting very many interviews, but after I did some “creative” resume work, I was getting all kinds of calls. As a…
What have labor unions done for us?
I’m supposed to submit and get my boss to approve my timesheet today. So far my boss has ignored my texts and warned me not to contact her on email regarding this issue. Should I just stop working?
The “Boss” sent out an email, on short notice, (Friday afternoon effective Monday) informing the company employees that shifts were going to be changing. Respectively with this change, my shift is going from a M-Th 10 hour shifts to a M-Fri 8 hour shifts +Saturdays to be OT and “required” on an as needed basis. I'm perfectly ok with working a Monday-Fri (though I do like and prefer my M-Th.) but being required to work any Saturday at their whim (“…when told to”) I am not. I thought OT was supposed to be a choice? Am I going crazy???
