Empathy doesn’t pay the bills
I was just catching up with a friend who happens to be an old coworker. She told me an employees dad died of covid last week. She had an amazing relationship with her father and was understandably crushed so she asked our mutual friend to talk to the owners about the companies bereavement leave policy. The owners said, “What bereavement policy? I guess she can take Friday off, but needs to be back on Monday.” Not really post worthy as so many of you have worse stories but what came next made my jaw drop. My friend, who was visibly upset by this comment and happens to be ferocious snapped back, “Jesus christ man have some empathy.” Their retort? “Empathy doesn't pay the bills.” I could still be working under these utter sociopaths. This community gave me the motivation to see what was out there. If a POS like me…
We ALL need to get mad as hell
So I’m quitting my job after he said this. I gave him 30 days notice to find replacement and turnover the projects I’m currently handling. I work as Interior Designer and have 8 projects on my plate, 5 are currently under construction, 1 design phase and 2 are mostly follow ups. I made a mistake that day and he was so furious and proceeded to throw words at me. And he asked why this happened and basically explained that load I’m having and said that this is not even half of projects per person. Now that I’m quitting, he asked me if I can extend for 3 more months to turnover the projects at it will overload the other people in the company. I just want to send the text he sent to me a week ago but I didn’t. Fuck him! I’m still leaving after 30 days.
Same money more time
I gave notice today I currently make 10/hr. I accepted a job that pays 16 but it’s only part time. That’s fine. My checks will be the same but more time with my girlfriend
