So I’ve been waiting to finally leave this job due to an overwhelming mountain of issues (incompetent management, outdated tech, terrible systems/culture, etc.). Found a new job at a pretty well known company that is at least growing and addresses some of these problems, with a significant pay bump and title change as well. My manager asked if they can counter to keep me and asked me to throw out a number. With no intent to stay, I gave them my minimum threshold to see what number they would throw out. I have been pretty underpaid at this point due to performing the tasks of two jobs while earning the salary of the lower-paying one. The minimum threshold I gave them was 35% higher than my current salary and within market range for the higher-paying job I’ve been performing job functions for. Instead of countering they asked if I could…

Dear Sonic Drive-In patrons
Sonic usually has a drive through and drive in spots. This does not apply to drive through, only the spots you pull into. If you are wondering why the Sonic employees are always trying to steal your coins/change, it’s because Sonic pays them a servers wage, below minimum wage. I interviewed there and noped tf out of there when they offered me $4 an hour plus tips. Everyone I tell this to is completely unaware that these are supposed to be tipped employees. After all, it is a FAST FOOD restaurant. I feel bad for all the times I accidentally did not tip, but this is completely ridiculous on Sonic’s part.
Boss kept giving me more work to do because we lost an employee (did not get a raise for this btw). One day she gave me a rather significant amount of the daily work and I told her I wasn't sure I could incorporate it into my regular workday and get things done on time. She just laughed and said I'd be fine. Cue me rushing to get everything done for 2 weeks and burning myself to the ground. Boss came back again 2 weeks later and gave me another little thing to add to the pile. I kept my mouth shut and decided I gave up. I was drowning in work and she wasn't going to listen to me about cutting back. So, I slowly and methodically did my work like I had done before she had began stacking things up on me. I began falling behind in everything.…
This happened a few years back. I interviewed at a tech startup where a friend already worked. Recruiter seems excited to try luring me in. They really talk about how much the company values diversity and inclusion. I tick several “diversity” boxes. At one point, the recruiter mentions that they offer nonnegotiable salaries. Oh? I ask why, since they're bragging about it. They say that they don't allow it because “negotiating compensation would be unfair to those who don't negotiate,” to paraphrase what I remember from the interview. They offer the same amount to everyone across the board, so they neatly avoid all bias. Right? Of course, they also don't disclose compensation up front. Startup rejects me and I take a competing offer. Later, I talk to my friend who already works there and share numbers. Surprise, surprise, they make 50% less than me despite having similar qualifications. Underpaying everyone…
