I work for myself and create videos for businesses looking to advertise or launch a product/place etc. I get emails from time to time from voiceover artists offering their services. Today I got one from an American who couldn't stress enough that she was “non-union” as if that would make any difference to me in the UK who is a member of a union myself has a partner who is in a teachers union has a parent in a healthcare union, a brother in a trades-person union; and an uncle in a retail workers union. “My name is [redacted], and I am a full-time, non-union voice over talent. I provide high quality professional voice overs for companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Heineken, Volkswagen, Versace, Virgin Orbit, Marriott International, Farmers Insurance and Hilton Hotels & Resorts to name a few. I am easy to work with, prompt, reliable, non-union and I make…
I got to know the antiwork community through an article from China. This surprised me because I have always been yearning for the working environment and labor laws in Europe and America. But after I browse some posts. I gradually realized that for capitalists, the size of your capital determines how much you can use labor law as toilet paper to wipe their ass. I would like to briefly introduce the situation of working in China and let you know what the working environment in developing countries is. My wife is doing an audit at PWC and is currently doing an annual audit. The workload of the annual review is huge. Her overtime work is basically the norm, and she often works until after nine o'clock to get off work. This caused her to suffer from moderate anxiety. She has spoken to me too many times lately about quitting. And…
Company Huddles in my free time
My manager wants to start daily huddles and this will be 5-10 minutes before or after the shift. I will not be compensated for this time spend. Tbh I see the benefits of a huddle but I really don’t want to spend my own free time participating in this. How does everyone else feel about this? My team gladly signed up for this and I am getting a feeling from the management team that “I am being difficult’.
I wasn’t sure where to post this so I thought I’d try here. I’ve been hearing that everyone owes money for taxes this year and that you’re lucky if your “return” covers what you owe. Has anyone else come across this? Does anyone know why? Makes me nervous
Snakes in business
I work at subway. I'm currently working to get the manager role at my shop because we only have a stand-in at the moment not a proper manager. The stand in supposedly wants me to take the job. Now yesterday I was given the responsibility of managing rotas (no extra pay mind you) and I sent it out when it was finished to immediately be told by one staff member 'I'm not working sunday because I'm getting drunk Saturday night' my response was it's too late to change the rota so she needed to find someone to swap shifts with. The stand in agreed with me. Head forward to this morning, I wake up to a new rota sent out by the stand in that took this member of staff off sunday and GAVE ME THE SHIFT INSTEAD. I am fuming and so sick of snakes in workplaces, if the…
Help quitting my job
So I work at a warehouse full time and boss man said Saturday’s are now mandatory so working 6 days a week is putting a hurting on my physical and mental state so of course I called out sick and now the time has come for me to come back but I simply don’t want to just sent in the resignation letter
I’d love more information on how to start a union for social workers (in the United States). How does a profession start this process?
What's with the recent push from upper/middle management to get people back in the office. I don't understand why this has become a new battlefront. I have also seen a lot of articles in the media from right wing pundits about “getting back to the office” the sentiment being that employees are better off and happier working in the office. I don't know who has been apart of this research but that hasn't been my personal experience from speaking to colleagues and friends. Literally no one I have spoke to wants to go back full time, part time yes maybe. My company has an all staff meeting tomorrow whereby the general theme will be getting staff back into the office, however they have considerably downsized our office and expect most staff to be in a very small and compact room, which will be hell in terms of keeping focused. I…
The audacity of his employer
I really wish this wasn’t a thing we have to deal with but gestures broadly here we are… annual review
