I have been job searching hard for about 4 months straight and haven’t found anything. 2-3 applications per day. I’m a recent communications graduate and I’m feeling incredibly burned out and hopeless at this point. I’m doing everything right. I’m qualified for these positions. Yet none of my work is paying off at all. I would have been better off taking crappy pay freelance work the past 4 months instead of wasting all of my time on custom cover letters and tweaking my application for each job. It’s gotten me nowhere. It’s obvious that these companies are not hurting for applicants. At this point I feel like I’m almost better off starting some kind of business from scratch than hoping to get hired by someone else. It’s useless at this point. Heard that from my new employer today, they were talking about my coworker. Not sure how to feel about it. They also expect him to work throughout weekend.
Anyone out there actually have hope for change in America regarding living wages, rent control, pto, etc.? I get so excited by the growing public callouts and what not. But, I also think maybe I’m too optimistic. Maybe the people at the top don’t see our stories, posts, and tweets. It’s also entirely possible that they just really really really don’t care and don’t see our concerns as a threat.
