Please don’t “name and shame”…

It makes it way too easy for people to find out the rest of the story… and who on earth would want to find out how many of these stories are BS?

Yes, and they say we’re gonna have to pay what’s owed // We’re gonna have to reap from some seed that’s been sowed

I was driving through North Eastern PA and saw a Taco Bell sign ending in “$13/hr!!” And I thought it said “starting at” and it reminded me of how bad minimum wage is, but then I did a double take and saw the sign said “Up to $13/hr!!” … WTF.

My favorite quit story

Thought you guys might get a kick out of this. My favorite quit story was back when I used to work at Hollister. It's a store that caters to people that consider themselves attractive. They keep the store dark, blast loud music, and spray cologne every 15 minutes. Terrible place to work. People meant to fold clothes were reffered to as models. Most vain people I've ever met in my life. So anyway I'm a bit older and I hate wearing skinny jeans. All the Hollister jeans were tight as hell, no room for my nuts. Being a manager I was told I had to represent the brand and wear these pants. But I refused. One day the general manager comes in and demands that I either change my pants or leave in front of all my employees. I up and left. Constricting my genitalia was the last straw for…

Fortune 500 Company Back To Office Communication

I work for a fortune 500 company and they recently let us know we are required to come back and work in the office. We have had record growth and profits the last 2 years. Below are quotes from the email “The team has demonstrated that work doesn’t always need to be done in an office, but I also believe there are tangible benefits that come from in person collaboration, hallway conversations with colleagues, and face to face interactions.” “We recognize that employee work habits and life patterns have been established over the last two years and that is changing again.”

Maternity leave vs store owner

I’ll try to make this as short and sweet as possible because there’s a ton of info and I would be writing a novel if I covered every detail. Here goes… Full time employee for 4 years at X. Dropped to part time in September 2020 to begin post secondary. Had to go on sick leave November 2020 through May because surprise, I was pregnant and got the worst imaginable vomiting that remained consistent the entire pregnancy. When I dropped to part time, I was not aware I was/could be pregnant. I complete the school year in April (thank god for online due to Covid), mat leave kicks in in May, and June my daughter is born. I chose the 18 month leave knowing it’s easier to balance school without working too. I’m in Canada, we have a choice between 12 and 18 months. Boss was aware. Boss must’ve forgotten…

Employee exploitation by a country club

I am currently a Employee at Briarwood Country Club in AZ I am friends with many people in the Food and beverage department there and the higher up management are fine with taking half a hours wage out of ALL not just the F&B departments checks but the entire staffs for a half hour break we tend not to get and 1.50 for food we don't always get some of us work 12 hour days if not more on our feet and when confronting them about this wage theft their response was to stay 30 minutes after your shift the bussers make minimum wage 12.80 + 1% gratuity which equates to approximately 14.00 line cooks made 15 they got raised to 17 because the 2 cooks they have working that work 60 hour weeks were going to leave (Fast food workers here average 16-17 that is cashiers and line cooks)…

American teachers of r/antiwork: why don’t you leave and teach, literally, anywhere else?

If you're a teacher, why would you work in the USA for $50,000/yr (where your purchasing power is absolute garbage) when you could work all over the world? South Korea. Japan. Taiwan. China. Thailand. Vietnam. Indonesia. Malaysia. UK. Some EU countries. The Middle East. In South Korea I had a darling two-bedroom apartment and worked 6 hours/day, with a small allowance for classroom supplies. My quality of life was excellent, my job was stable, and my purchasing power was probably double what it is in Canada. All over the world, people are looking for teachers and instructors: international schools, IB programs, English programs, etc. The UK is desperate for teachers – the quality of work/school support might not be much better, but it comes with comprehensive healthcare (and is, thus, better than the USA). Why do you keep working in the states? Edit: to anyone commenting that teachers “get paid…
