I cannot tell you how many times I've heard that over the course of my career as a “joke” from the administration in education. The “joke” spans from elementary school to college. Let me be absolutely clear – This joke is disgusting. You're writing off your employees and their worth (even after stipulating they must obtain a higher level of education) all while you make 6 figure salaries (most public school / colleges list their employee salaries as public knowledge). Want to see what the administration makes while making this joke? For an easy to use example just look at the NY website here with the salaries of all state employees listed: https://www.seethroughny.net/payrolls
Just curious… I am a salaried employee and though I do some occasional overtime, putting in 10-12 hr days, i keep it to 8 hours 90 percent of the time. I get a one hour lunch and usually come back a little late. 6 years ago I was told I needed to be at work at 8am, but somehow changed my shift on my own to 8:30am-5:30pm. I usually still arrive a few minutes late (mostly because of sleep issues and some dread). I have to keep track of all my time through an app, which I've only ever heard of independent contractors having to do. I hate it. I stay on task pretty much, but make some shit up because I space out or just have to take mental breaks. A lot of hourly employees ( call center types) only get a half hour lunch, and to my understanding…
I know it's obviously a mistake, but it's pretty funny.
Pretty mad. Not at getting a tiny raise, its what was expected. But when I went into the office today they gifted me a graduate journal. Wanted to chuck the patronizing little thing at their heads. In the end I kept my composer while making small talk, but left the office with the journal left on the counter. Telling them I had no use for it. Am I overreacting?
Better place?
It was true that I didn’t have much ambition, but there ought to be a place for people without ambition, I mean a better place than the one usually reserved. How in the hell could a man enjoy being awakened at 6:30 a.m. by an alarm clock, leap out of bed, dress, force-feed, shit, piss, brush teeth and hair, and fight traffic to get to a place where essentially you made lots of money for somebody else and were asked to be grateful for the opportunity to do so? Company-wide email from HR
I know this seems super small, and there are a ton of bigger and more immediate problems, but today my employer sent a company-wide email (to about 10k people) announcing the new “human capital management platform” that they want us to use. Maybe it’s just me, but I find the words “human capital” to be disgusting. We are human beings, not a building or printer or whatever. I talked to someone I know in HR and brought it up, and she argued with me about it! “But that’s what it is! You can’t get mad for someone calling something what it is!” eyeroll It just put me in a shit mood on a Monday morning. Thanks for listening to my rant.
