Hi, I'm a fulltime nightshift worker in Pennsylvania. I currently am working for a non-profit and have been for a little over a year. I accepted the job because they said I would be able to work four nights on and four off, and while admittedly nightshifts are probably horrible for my health that was the least amount of work I could get away with and still get healthcare and rent. Just today my boss who I almost never see and who doesn't understand my position sent an email to me and the three other night shift workers who share my schedule telling us that we will have to work four nights on, three off, which will give me way less time to recover, go for runs, work out, hang with my friends, and all the things I actually enjoy. I work factories and like most factories the break room is a several minute walk from my station. 3 minutes each way. Recently had someone ask me why my breaks were 21 minutes. I told them my break starts when I get to the breakroom. We get 2 15 min breaks and a unpaid lunch. They really thought they were going to be able to take 12 mins a day away from me more than an hour a week from my break leaving me with 9 min breaks. I brought up how when I clock out for lunch I have to walk up to the time clock before I clock out and they backed off of me. However I see several coworkers take their 9 min breaks and shovel food down because they only have 9 mins to sit and snack. Sad more people don't put their foot down with…

Main issues i have are with management, half the time i can do my job perfectly fine without them, then they come in and micromanage wasting my time. E.g. i got fired once for saying 'anything else sir?' Instead of 'is that all?' Because it 'encourages the customer to say 'no'. But with the amount of non native english speakers in the metropolis i found people were actually struggling to understand the phrase! Grunt solutions aren't accepted. Also, i dont know how half of them get the job. I'd be better at it than them, but I know they wouldnt hire a kid in university without a degree. Has to be a soulless clueless person who stresses how they don't care about employees and want a target up their ass. I would be such a good manager it enrages me that i have to wait!! I’ve hated every job I’ve ever had and I’m struggling rn to find a passion after my relationship ended recently. Most people in my life view work as their end all be all, like performing well at their job is their reason for living. Honestly if I could be like that I would, it seems so easy, but I just can’t view work as anything more than a means to make money. I’ve been trying hobbies and learning and stuff but nothings scratching that itch for me. What are you guys passionate about and live for if not work?

Hello, everyone. This is a throwaway account for obvious reasons. I work at a very well-known bank in the US, at one of its call center locations. Recently, our manager has told us that some people were abusing bathroom breaks and the solution to fix that was tell us that outside of break and lunches, we are only supposed to be on the phones and that they don't pay us to go to the bathroom. When told about needing to go in between scheduled breaks (which they won't even consider making flexible to begin with), middle management will literally give you “tips” such as sit down on the toilet during your break and don't drink any water during your shift so you won't need to go, which is obviously detrimental to one's health. When confronted about the possible adverse health effects of this new policy, they act surprised and tell…
