It’s a scam

The biggest scam about working is having to pay to work. I used to be in tile and granite industry and just to get started costs around $1500 and I was 18 at the time. Then when I stopped doing that after 8 years I became a diesel mechanic. That’s about a $12,000-$15,000 start and then you’re constantly buying tools. Did that for 10 years and got my CDL which costs me $200 a year plus renewing my Medcard for another $160. Drove truck for a bit and had to pay for boots and work type clothing. Now I’m a corrections officer and that costs money. I don’t pay for uniforms but I pay for boots that I have to wear plus my duty belt and everything on it. Then I have to pay for gas to get there plus wear and tear on my car. Then I get taxed…

Just started at a new restaurant and got this bs first schedule. How should I approach getting it changed?

I just started at a new restaurant to come on board as a server. After a week of training, which was primarily acting as support staff that they were short 40 hours of food, running and hosting , and then one actual day of shadowing a waitress where she made several hundred dollars and didn’t tip me out. This is the schedule I get? This is what I drafted advice? Hey guys just touching base in regards to the schedule. I can’t meet my need financially on 2 food running shifts and 2 serving shifts. I certainly don’t mind helping out if you guys are short support staff here and there. However good running was not the agreement when I came onboard. I’m really enjoying working there and feel like I’m a good fit. I hope we can come to some sort of resolution.

Being turned down for a job for being “over qualified” is bananas to me.

I’ve never understood why I get turned down for lower level jobs because of my degrees, experience in other fields, and test scores etc, like wtf clearly I don’t think I’m over qualified if I’m applying, shouldn’t you be thrilled to get a competent hire? Are they afraid I’ll come for their job? I just need to work I don’t get it

Sexual harassment report ending in retaliation.

A coworker finally reported one of the assistant managers for rampant sexual harassment. By finally, I mean the behavior was daily and blatant, and visible to everyone including other managers. The reporting party and their friend were put on leave, while management looked through THEIR private texts, hoping to discredit the report. Upon finding only confirmation that there WAS harassment, managers instead wrote the reporting party (and her friend who's only involvement was standing by her friend) up for saying negative things about coworkers in their private texts, saying this Final Written Report (even though this is the first write up for either person) is unrelated to the sexual harassment report. For instance, in the private texts, both friends (who were angry about the harassment) called them a name (di**heads). They know they're not allowed to fire them, but writing them up for the content of their private messages seems…

What is with people thinking it’s cool to go to work sick?

If I’m sick and feel like trash I usually stay home for a couple days which is the right thing to do. Every time I do though, my mom always tells me “I don’t understand why you always call off when you’re sick. I go into work sick all the time” like what? Going into work sick, putting unnecessary stress on your body when you’re supposed to be resting and also spreading your germs to all of your co workers is a flex? This isn’t just my mom that says this either. I’ve heard many older people say this and I just don’t understand. It’s common courtesy not only to yourself but to the people you work with to stay the fuck at home when you’re sick. Yours and your coworkers health is more important than still going into work just because you don’t wanna call off for whatever reason.…

Mandatory unpaid overtime !?

I am a senior manager of a team, I was recently sent an email from my boss complaining about many things that aren’t actually an issue in my team. Yes occasionally someone is late but they always work hard and end up doing extra hours so I don’t really mind. It’s give and take. One of his points has made me question if this email needs to go to HR. He complained that the office is empty at 5:10 (our hours are 9-5), and praised 2 people who he sees work extra hours. I’d like to hear others people opinion on this, I am pretty disgusted by this. Not only is it very old fashioned but people do actually work over time because he gives too much work… but we have laptops and can do this from home! Also… is this not asking for modern slavery? Since we do not…
