Manager Obfuscation
It bothers me a lot that because I'm in a “management” role, i cant join a union with my coworkers, even though I make less money than they do. I think this is a purposeful tactic by many retailers where they inflate the job with several supervisor/management roles to give employees less opportunity to unionize. For instance, at the retail store I work at, there are 6 manager or supervisor positions and 6 base level employees. 5 of the management positions make less money than the salespeople do, and 3 of those have very similar jobs to the base employees. At my previous job, there were 7 supervisors and 5 or 6 base level employees. It seems like a lot of retailers give you one extra responsibility and slap “supervisor” on a nametag somewhere just so you cant join a union with your coworkers. Has anyone else experienced this?
Job Description Benefit Hype
I had to laugh when I came across this job description. First at the Good/Better/Best format – which all appear to be pretty standard benefits, and again when they list “Company Cookouts” in a higher category than PTO/401k.
which would you choose
i have two interviews coming up! im excited for both but stuck between which one i want more. one is a located at a small clinic campus and its mon-fri 8-4:30. duties are administrative and closely related to patient needs and physician needs. one is a located at a large hospital and its 3 12hr shifts, i think it requires one weekend day every other week. not sure if they're all in a row. duties are assigning patients who are admitted to the hospital to beds/rooms. heres also something to consider, first one range of pay is slightly lower than the second but not too much. ive been working with this company for over a year, so hopefully id negotiate them on either jobs if offered to up the pay a bit. ive never worked 3 12s before, but wanted to see which people would prefer. any advice is appreciated!…
The Job Market Is Unbearable
I’m currently a business analyst making $60k at my job. Keep in mind, I’m from New York, so that doesn’t go nearly as far as it would in other states. Because I graduated in 2020, I had the misfortune of struggling to find a job for a year and a half before landing my current position. After being there for a year, I didn’t get a raise despite having good remarks in my review because the company is going down the shitter at breakneck speed. I’ve been trying to find a job since October of 2022 and have easily applied to over 500 jobs since then. I’ve come close to landing a job, but no luck. In New York, unless you’re pulling $72k or more, you’re probably not affording rent. However, many jobs keep demanding more and more skills that do not warrant the low wages relative to what’s being…
Hard work rarely pays off
Feeling frustrated today and looking perspective. We moved to a 90% is doing great model in terms of bonus and performance structure. I’m fine with it and don’t really need the 5-10% extra as it literally isn’t a tank of gas for me. Met today for a performance review and after producing top tier quality work in 2 weeks that would easily cost a bespoke company 12k per video (x7) and producing a blended solution with animated characters, bespoke animations, and real-interviews; the only thing that people remember was an issue from a junior teammate who forgot to press a button on a project I never even touched. Frustrating to feel like I killed myself for 2 months to make conference worthy innovations and all that is talked about is somebody moving too fast and forgetting to set something private. The content in question was secure and there were no…
