Corporate is Ruining My Job
First of all, I'm sorry this is so long. It's part rant. But it's also part me asking for advice. So I hope you can hang in there with me, til the end. If not, don't make negative comments about how you couldn't read it all. Just scroll on. For those who DO read to the end, TIA. Now, on to my post: WHY do new managers think they know more than people who've been at the company for years? And WHY are THEY the ones the executives always listen to?? I've seen this happen over and over. Here, and in real life. And now it's happening to me. So, I work in fast food. At a company, as I have said before, that is run by a clown-both figuratively and literally. Draw your own conclusions. I've been in and around the business for almost 25 years, and I've been…
Work pressure has gotten out of hand
I get like 50 Emails a day I am supposed to do – 20 phone calls – 5 meetings a day. Everything has to be ready by yesterday – everything has to be ASAP with an undestaffed skeleton crew. Despite our productivity tripling duing the last few decases – we work the same and get paid the same. When I listen to the old stories of my grandparents how they worked in the 60 I cant even imagine it. Either reduce Full time to 25 hours/week or decrease the work load but this is just insane. Also the 24/7 avaliability everyone expects nowadays is not healthy as well.
lunch breaks and wage theft.
This is in the UK. I work at a small independent salon, so small in fact that I am the single employee of the business. Recently I have changed my hours at work from 42 hours down to 31 a week to accommodate other life commitments. I have agreed to do 9-2 on three days of the week 9-8 on one day and 9-4 on the final day. On these longer days I always have one hour deducted for my “lunch break” and as such I have taken to blocking out this hour during my shift. Therefore making my total paid hours 31 per week. However, this morning I have witnessed my boss changing the schedule so that I work every hour on both of these days and have been told in the past that “we don’t really take conventional breaks so we just grab food when we get a…

Why retire when you can work amirite???
I have seen the effects of this first hand, in myself and my co workers. If you are on irregular work schedules I strongly advise you to do everything you can to get a consistent work schedule. Especially if you are suffering from chronic burn out. Chronic burn out from work is caused by improper work/home life balance that irregular schedules do not facilitate. Your employer knows next to nothing about your home life, so why are you letting them dictate your work/home life balance? Stop letting the computer generated schedules burn you out and go see a doctor to back you up in demanding consistent schedules, or force their hand by getting extra curricular activities such as competitive sleeping. You are in charge of your own health, and it's up to you to balance work/home life. Without that balance work will always prioritize work.
What do you think of recruiters advertising the details of the job as being like a workout? I've seen some of them say you won't need a gym membership if you work here , for instance. Any truth to that? Are they technically right ?
I don’t think I will get an interview
I just hate when a company want you to fill out an essay on all the great things you can do for them, before even listing what they are willing to offer. It’s a waste of everyone’s times
