This morning, I was fired from my toxic job after using my sick days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I sent a doctor's note to my boss via text before deciding to quit next Wednesday without giving any notice because I start my new contract-hire job on Thursday. As soon as I clocked in, my boss asked me how I was feeling and then called me into HR. They terminated my employment effective immediately and offered me two weeks of severance, which I have 21 days to accept or decline. I am aware that the company is not being generous; they are offering me this package to prevent any legal action. However, given how much my health deteriorated due to this job in the last year and a half, I am wondering if there is any way for me to request a higher severance package. I am also concerned whether…
Productivity is trending downward…
Because of people refusing to work beyond the scope of their job title? Because people are refusing to work for toxic employers? Nope, it's that blasted WFH because of the pandemic!
Need some help
Hi everyone. I had a heated debate with my dad tonight about the financial problems in the US and wanted to get some feedback. Backstory: my dad is very liberal as am I and we’ve always agreed pretty much on everything. He’s almost 70. But tonight we had a massive argument about wages and lifestyle and work ethic. He started pulling the whole bullshit avocado toast, star bucks thing. When I said fine but ok let’s say that saves $2000 a year, that 2K ain’t making any difference with the cost of mortgage and college. Here were his points: -the young generation spends too much on products—nail salon Netflix Starbucks etc and if they lived on a sandwich everyday they would save enough over time to eventually afford a house. I went over the housing and rental costs with him. He pulled up housing and rental costs in undesirable or…

Money really fucks people up
I recently got into it a little bit with a friend of mine. I’ve known him for years and he grew up extremely poor I saw him work hard to get to where he’s at. TBH if this is what we become once we start making real money I might just opt out bro. He switched careers and went from making 200k to just over 100k and has been living extremely comfortable for way too long. He got a job as a regional manager for a fire suppression company. He was telling me about his new job and how much work these guys do and how they make such great money, $18 – $25 an hour. Then I had to tell him that it wasn’t great money and everyone should be making a livable wage. His reply was just “they just do manual labor like it’s not that hard”. Like…
This is a short story but it was so satisfying so I have to share. I used to work part-time in a small restaurant for some extra money while I study. When I started we had a pretty good manager that cared about the employees. If we needed a day off during exam period, she would make it happen even if she has to take the shift herself. The place was running flawlessly, and the owner was happy. About a year ago she left for a better job, not in a restaurant. Owner decided he didn't have to hire a new manager, and instead he would take care of everything. It was a clown fest, schedules were late, people got way more hours than they expected/wanted, others didn't get enough, often we found expired food in the fridges or improperly stored food, and cleaning was also lacking. When I raised…
