This morning, I was fired from my toxic job after using my sick days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I sent a doctor's note to my boss via text before deciding to quit next Wednesday without giving any notice because I start my new contract-hire job on Thursday. As soon as I clocked in, my boss asked me how I was feeling and then called me into HR. They terminated my employment effective immediately and offered me two weeks of severance, which I have 21 days to accept or decline. I am aware that the company is not being generous; they are offering me this package to prevent any legal action. Hi everyone. I had a heated debate with my dad tonight about the financial problems in the US and wanted to get some feedback. Backstory: my dad is very liberal as am I and we’ve always agreed pretty much on everything. He’s almost 70. But tonight we had a massive argument about wages and lifestyle and work ethic. He started pulling the whole bullshit avocado toast, star bucks thing. I recently got into it a little bit with a friend of mine. I’ve known him for years and he grew up extremely poor I saw him work hard to get to where he’s at. TBH if this is what we become once we start making real money I might just opt out bro. He switched careers and went from making 200k to just over 100k and has been living extremely comfortable for way too long. He got a job as a regional manager for a fire suppression company. This is a short story but it was so satisfying so I have to share. I used to work part-time in a small restaurant for some extra money while I study. When I started we had a pretty good manager that cared about the employees. If we needed a day off during exam period, she would make it happen even if she has to take the shift herself. The place was running flawlessly, and the owner was happy. About a year ago she left for a better job, not in a restaurant.
