I work in a very small insurance office. Just four of us. My boss is almost never at work. And on the few days she is here she comes in late and leaves early. And she’s on personal phone calls almost the entire time. My two coworkers have found various reasons to leave work 20min, 30min, sometimes hours early or not come in at all, repeatedly for the past at least 6 months. The reasons are legitimate enough. I will give them that. One coworker is in the middle of a legal battle and has court dates. My other had a close relative who’s been in the hospital and needs my coworker’s help with things (although she’s better and my coworker continues to leave early anyway for some reason). I’m curious if anyone knows about any unions that may accept/work with Fire and Water Restoration workers (like ServePro or Paul Davis employees). Sick of my company’s bullshit but want to make it better for everyone. Trying to find out if we’re covered or included in an existing union or if we’d need to make our own.

Think about why r/antiwork was created, why “quiet quitting” has become a popularized term, why more people want WFH jobs, why we see news about how lazy Milennials and Gen Z are. Its because more people are becoming aware of the broken system and setting boundaries, refusing to be exploited any further. But the biggest change is that more people are joining unions and going on strikes, not just in the US but all over the world. This isnt new. Look at history. Workers create wealth and the capitalists exploit its workers. Workers rise up and gain power again, then cycle repeats. My sister (28F) has worked at a local factory for the last 4 years. (Backstory, my sister has a pretty bad documented learning disability that affects her ability to read write and communicate fluently she also has adhd, anxiety, & depression.) My sisters father also has Huntington’s and it’s very likely that she does as well. She displays very like and exaggerated symptoms.
