I keep seeing posts about how hopeless everything is, how nothing will change. But we're looking right at change. Think about why r/antiwork was created, why “quiet quitting” has become a popularized term, why more people want WFH jobs, why we see news about how lazy Milennials and Gen Z are. Its because more people are becoming aware of the broken system and setting boundaries, refusing to be exploited any further. But the biggest change is that more people are joining unions and going on strikes, not just in the US but all over the world. This isnt new. Look at history. Workers create wealth and the capitalists exploit its workers. Workers rise up and gain power again, then cycle repeats. French revolution, labor movements during industrialization revolution, and more. Here is an example. This what happened during The Great Depression, when the unemployment was ~25% in the US. Millions…
I work in a big corporate, which name I won’t mention for fear of retaliation. Even though they train us to speak up and not be afraid of retaliation, I am starting to believe it’s all a bunch of BS since I feel I am being lied to, used and disposed to their pleasure. Before I speak any further, I want to preventatively address all those comments about “Working from home is not real work”. Like I heard other say, in the past 3 years I have WFH, I have worked more than any other time in my life (I have been in the same company for 15 years) and definitely I have been more efficient, not to mention the huge gain in work life balance, but this is not even the point. I have also to clarify that even though there were some talks about going back to the…
Not sure if this is a global thing or specific to the UK. A few years back I was working for the Clown and I got invited on a litter-picking day. This involved going out as a team with a manager to supervise to demonstrate how much McD loves its local community. It was unpaid, about 5-6 hours work for 10 staff. The store manager just watched, didn't help out and the bulk of the litter we were grabbing was packaging from our own restaurant. The only reason I went for it was because I was new and wanted a chance to get to know my coworkers in a more casual environment. If the company really cared they could pay us. 500 applications later I learned
Last year, I quit a job where I spent 70% of my salary on fuel and the rest on the lowest priced health insurance because public medicine is a joke here. Companies don't care about why you want the job unless it's licking their backside I quit the job because it was 2 hours drive both ways every day in bumper to bumper traffic. My mental health was shot, and my physical health suffered just as much, so I kept getting sick losing weight and not sleeping. The job itself wasn't stressful it was the 4 hours of my day going to driving and the constant stress of missing a call if someone contacts me to do something at 3 in the morning and I'm asleep like they did often. Since then I've sent out around about 500 applications heard back from a good chunk of them that I wasn't…
Lord I pray the workers will rise up
the number of people i know who are unaware that it is ILLEGAL for an organization to tell you discussing wage isn't allowed (regardless of the 'CULTURE'- gag me) and seem satisfied to 'accept their role' and even though they may be unhappy about their pay think that providing service is… some kind of privilege? MY FRIENDS. WE ARE BEING EXPLOITED AND IT IS OK TO SAY THAT. IT IS OK TO WANT MORE THAN WHAT YOU'RE TOLD IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU. REJECT INEQUITABLE PAY AND TELL THEM WHY. I'm leaving. I'm going back to the woods. If you need me no you don't.
Lmao you got me f’d up.
The infantilization of the worlforce
I've had two corporate type jobs in my life. One in a call center and my current one in a warehouse and I absolutely hate how upper management and HR infantilize us. At my old job we were rewarded with stupid little trinkets we were expected to display on out desks that we could eventually turn in for Amazon gift cards. This week at my current job there's a pinewood derby, go carts in the parking lot and a scavenger hunt. It's all so insulting.
