NC labor laws for being sent home early

Today one of my coworkers got a write up for something she disputed(this is not the issue). Afterwards she was willing to stay and work her shift but was forced to clock out and go home. Is this something she should be paid for since she wanted to and was willing to stay?

Am I in the wrong or are they in the wrong?

Hi just wanting everyone's honest opinion on a scenario. I will explain this in 2 parts my entire perspective as well as the leads/supervisor perspective. When you all read this statement please note that I am, in no way, shape or form arrogant but I'm one of the best at my job. I can complete a task roughly 1/2-3/4's faster than other employees. I know how long it will take me to complete a certain task, what appropriate methods to use, and the amount of time I can essentially relax before I start a task. With all of those positives in mind here are the negatives of my performance, I call out at least once a month or every two months. I'm late on a daily basis, and I'm confrontational to a certain extent. Granted I realize that the negative traits will draw attention to myself but I sill find…

There are approximately 22 million millionaires in the US

That’s roughly 7% of the population of the US millionaire status, and that number has been rising over the years. I’m not sure to think if that’s high or low. High because the value of the dollar has fallen, or low because I assumed there were more. I attached the link, what’re your thoughts?

Schedule change without notice… No wonder people quit.

So my employer has been going through some big corporate changes recently and there are many changes to work flow, expectations and now scheduling. I suspect money problems as HR has been nitpicking literally everything we do and are present in every meeting and department change we make. They're not there for employees support but seem to be running the show behind the managers, essentially puppeting them. We used to just work out the schedule amongst the department due to various personal needs and obligations and this has worked for years. The department was always covered and sure there was a short day here and there but productivity never suffered because I work with a bunch of bad asses. Recently in the last few schedules it's gotten muddied up with HR dictating to the manager what should be done and that the manager needs to get a hold on the…

It’s Mental Health Awareness Month – So I Quit

Two days ago the company I work for announced that May is mental health awareness month (within the company). I got a chuckle from reading the announcement this morning as I had called out the day of the announcement to give myself a “mental health” day. Today I gave my 2 week notice. Recent events made it clear this company is toxic and will never change, which has motivated me to look for better opportunities. Cheers!

Literally had to ask new parent company to stop using the word “exploit.”

This was some years back when I was working at a small company that was being acquired by a large corporation. As the new CEO began their big pitch for how we fit into the bigger picture, they kept saying things like “We want to exploit your talent for…” and “If we can exploit this…” at least two or three times before someone from our company literally had to interrupt, politely ask them to stop using the word “exploit” and explain to this corporate sociopath why the word carries such negative connotations. Then in 2014 they laid off my department, along with two others full of many friends. It was my dream job, and just I happened to luck into it right out of college. It's been a struggle ever since, but I fight to stay strong for my kids. Much love to anyone else out there who has been…

I’ve been screamed out of my job twice by other base level employees that think they have power.

I work at a certain discount auto parts place, I follow every rule my boss gives me to a t. I like the work I do The customers aren't bad, the environment is somewhat organized, And we're not too busy. Other employees won't clean, won't put away stock, and will generally just disregard rules. But because I like my job I don't mind picking up those extra things. Usually I get a little help with cleaning at the end of the day because it's a lot. One employee, the ASM, would sit in the back with his feet on his desk and watch YouTube while I ran the front and cleaned. I asked my manager if maybe there's something that could be done, he told me to take pictures of stuff that got done. So I was doing that and the ASM noticed, The back room was swept so I…

What’s the weirdest policy you’ve had to deal with on a job?

A few years back, I briefly worked for an amusement park run by Cedar Fair. One of the policies in their employee manual was essentially “You can't grow facial hair on company time”. Essentially, if you started working there with facial hair you could keep it, but if you ever shaved, or if you started working there clean-shaven, you had to stay clean-shaven. I didn't stick around long enough to find out what would happen if I broke this policy; they wanted me to work over 60 hours a week with no overtime pay.
