Paying you a check doesn’t give them the right to treat you like a pet while you’re there.

I got a job with full benefits and 4-10s, but there’s just one problem…

It's paying 16/hr. The area is super cheap, but that rate just seems so paltry. Do I get free time? Plenty. The health/dental/vision plan doesn't even come with any payments by me, just a 500 yearly deductible. The place is really well climate controlled and super clean. The pace of work is so chill that I started feeling guilty while working the same pace as people that have been there years. Like 12 paid holidays off each year, and sick time/PTO accrual with no cap. The place feels like a dream, but I can't get around that pay. The area is cheap enough for me to save most of my paycheck, and it feels like I'm being ripped off? Idk guys, convince me this place is cool. I want to like it. It's just that pay…. and the coworker with a swastika tattoo on his calf.

Can this sub please stop shitting on people who you don’t think are “fighting the man” and also posts that repeatedly have other people from other countries saying “why hasn’t the US gone on strike or stopped” and for the love of god actually read this post before you lose your crap.

So to start off, I see so many people shitting on anyone who wants to go back to the office. Saying it’s just boomers. No, it’s not. Some people actually enjoy a commute and social interaction. Or they live with people who don’t respect work from home and want to avoid that. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. Do not generalize “anti work people only believe in work from home and only capitalism wants you in an office”. No. It should 1000% be a choice, but too many people here don’t even respect a personal preference. You’re wrong if you disagree and actually enjoy being in person. Another one. “I don’t understand why people work hard because I’m XYZ”. Okay, some people just have a personal sense of doing good work. It’s not because the company expects it from them, it’s because they expect it from themselves, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER…

What’s the point of education if everything requires years of hands on experience that educational institutions don’t provide.

I have a 3 year certification in Audio Engineering and Music Production, and an AA in Graphic Design and I cannot get a job ANYWHERE other than fucking chik-fil-a. Am I just screwed? Do I just have to accept that I'm probably going to have to live on ramen noodles at 26 for 4 more years, and go to college again – accrue even more debt – just to have a CHANCE to work in one of the fields I want to? I've applied for over 250 related jobs in the past 3 weeks and I've had 3 screening interviews, and never got another interview. I'm charismatic as I can be, I have 2 years experience as an unpaid Audio Engineer Apprentice for a top of the line studio in Bethesda, I have 11 years of experience with Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, and I'm at the least intermediate to advanced skill…

Weird Questionnaire on First Day

So I just had my first day of work as an activity assistant at a nursing home. I was given a questionnaire to fill out, but I was also left alone most of the day to work on training online. They gave it to me to take home to fill out since I didn’t complete it, and since I didn’t realize it had a backside. It has questions like: – Favorite vacation spots? – Favorite music? – Favorite flower? – Favorite foods/drinks? – Hobbies? – What can’t you live without? – What things would you like people to know about you? I asked them initially if I had to fill out the form, as I felt really weird about it and I have a lot of trouble being personal with people I work with. The backside also had questions I would answer, such as: – Why did you choose to…

Global Week of Rest

Definitely don't see this often. Think it is a start and more companies should do something similar. Larger ones can split it up into groups.

$10 if you work 40hrs. $8 if you work less than 40hrs. WTF?

So if I'm not able to work full time I would be getting paid less per hour for doing the exact same work that the full time employees do. This is awful!

I think my employer is trying to slowly get rid of me

So, I currently work at a shitty dollar store (not the best but it pays the bills). I first agreed to this job due to it being close to my house, I had no retail experience (I had 5 years job experience in a niche field that didn’t transfer to much), and because I was desperate. The store manager made a big deal about “paying her people well” only for me to make 11.50 hr. I was rushed through training videos. Then a week or two after I started they made me a manager. I agreed cause I thought it came with a pay raise but was shocked to find out it did not. It only came with more work and “consistent hours”……. I took it anyway (desperation ya know) and I’ve been a manager since. My hours were about 30hrs a week but my shifts are all evening shifts…
