work wanted me to put dead rat into a water heater.

For context, I no longer work at this company I am mentioning, and this was a little over a year ago. I worked in a waterheater production company, small end but management acted like we were the best of the best despite being understaffed and never having supplies in stock for production of product. I ran our only assembly unit which put the water heater units together, so everything rode on if I could do the assembly process. Our water heaters were lined with cement, so they had the individual pieces of it lined before hand and then brought to me once they had hardened for assembly. One day I am going through my parts and found a rat had gotten stuck in the wet cement and died there. It had been dead for weeks and the smell was unbearable. I notified management who was pissed because they only made…

A Rant + A Call for Revolution

Humans are not supposed to live like this. It is not in our biology to be like this. They have built an economy where they expect humans to be perfectly rational and work as efficiently as machines. Economists call these perfect beings Econs. “Humans are imperfect, emotional, and full of bias while econs are perfect, calculated, and objective” We subject our youngest to bombardments of legalized manipulation but we don't call it manipulation. We call it marketing. They say it is a necessary evil for the benefit of the economy. Same as they said slavery was a necessary evil for the benefit of the economy. Must we have to fight off the half trillion dollar marketing industry just for our sanity? Why do we allow this? They say the economy is a meritocracy yet corporations that manipulate, lie to and even poison us get rewarded with a greater profit for…

Getting slightly sick of my job.

Sales OP here and I’ve been working this job for about a year now. Company used to be great and super thoughtful about its employees. Lately, like, the last 2 months or so, they’ve thrown all employee care away. A little bit of info. I work 6 days a week every week. We work with pop up tents, so we’re responsible for getting to work early and being set up for the sign in time. This is normally fine but they’ve been getting progressively angrier with the people that are 2-5 minutes late signing in. On top of that, they’ve been holding meetings at 8-9AM that are mandatory. And yes, usually on Zoom, which is great, but we already have to be there early and get in shit for being a minute late so having them drag these meetings on until 9:30-10, we don’t have a lot of time. And…

Is it worth it to leave my job?

Current scenario: have a decent 9-6 job, earning 50k annually, flexible hours, great benefits, basic leave entitlement, 55mins transport, one way (normal where I live) Incompetent & crap boss, snobby colleagues, don't fit in, overloaded, culture is meh, no progression unless you have a masters (which I have 0% interest in getting), not my field of interest and study, no valuable skills learned but easy job Possible new scenario: 9-6, slightly lower salary, fixed hours, no benefits, basic leave entitlement, 1.5+ hr traveling (one way) (much longer), possibly gaining valuable skills in the industry Recommended by my ex manager (good rs) reco new boss is good, willing to hire me despite no relevant experience (struggle to find job in industry of interest due to lack of relevant experience) willing to train from scratch, small team, unsure abt progression, my field of interest and study, potentially difficult job as self study…

Work is breaking the law.

I’m kinda new at this job. When you start we have to pass a drug screen and background test. Some new guy got hired on, and for the last 3 months he’s been here I’ve been hearing managers talking about him. They look in the windows of his car, they suspect he’s on drugs. Well I heard apparently he is on some form of probation for the next 6months where they are drug testing him. Our job is allowed to randomly drugs test us if suspicion is raised. But it’s not a timely thing like this. The guy is still here, I’m guessing he passed his drug test, and background. Why is my work so invested into this guys life? It’s almost like they’re trying really hard to get him fired. It also makes me curious what they do around my car or say about me when I’m not around.
