I have an interview this week at a company that I really want to get in with. My current job is draining and has had a huge impact on my mental health and I want to lease asap. I’d like to start with them immediately if they are down, but also don’t want to raise a red flag that I’m the type that quits without notice (I’ve always given notice at previous jobs). Any advice? Should I just wait for 2 weeks?
Please Help: Getting Laid Off
I live in Nebraska. I found out today I will be laid off. I will be laid off on or before Q1 2024. I am *so* tired of working shit jobs for shit companies that dont give shit about me and stressing daily about keeping a job. I don't think I have any disorders which could be used to claim disability; I am fairly depressed and occasionally suicidal. Also addicted to opioids (currently on Methadone). Is there any way I can use the system to my advantage to claim disability and stop trading my time/life for dollars? I currently earn about $2k/mo net/take-home/after-tax: I'm worried even if I do get some kind of disability I wont be able to pay all my bills (rent, food, antisuicide juice (methadone), car ins, credit cards). I'm stupid, please give me step by step instructions.
Clocking into work early
I work at a large warehouse for a big corporation. I've been working there for 2 years now. We are encouraged to clock into work 10 minutes early. Granted even if we clock in the full 10 minutes early we don't actually start working until the official start time, but our start times are altered on the app we use every day so that they don't have to pay us for those extra minutes. I'm wondering if im entitled to the pay for those minutes? Obviously ten minutes of pay isn't a lot for a single day, but over years it really adds up.
Worked at this place for five years, my ideas bolstered their production efforts at maximum 33million a year. When I asked if I could be compensated at one percent of that for a bonus I received “we pay for performance, not ideas” Was blackballed by the company and was forced to quit out of principle after management lied directly to my face about being on probation and not being able to receive a counter offer. Now the workers are putting effort into becoming a union and I could not be happier about it. https://teamidt.org/index.html
Hey guys, I'm (F19) feeling pretty upset about something that happened at my part-time job yesterday. I work at a cafe near my campus, and I am not sure how to react to what my boss did. I was working my shift and it was really busy. I was doing my best to keep up with the orders, but I made a mistake with one customer's drink. I apologized and offered to make a new one, but the customer was really rude and demanded that I give them a refund instead. I called my boss over to handle the situation, and at first, he seemed understanding. He apologized to the customer and offered them a refund, but then he turned to me and said that I would have to pay for it out of my own pocket. I was shocked and upset. I'm a broke college student and I can't…
Leaving job due to anxiety
I’ve been lurking here for a little bit and a good majority of the posts I see about people quitting their jobs is because they’re being underpaid or management is screwing them over in some way. I have been seriously considering leaving my job recently and going back to school, but I don’t share in those same struggles. My job pays relatively well, has very high job security, a good schedule, and I actually really like my direct supervisors. However, the profession itself has riddled me with so much anxiety it’s been affecting my personal life, and I’ve noticed it getting worse. Pretty soon I’m going to be going back to school (online) to get a business-related degree and pour my free time and creativity into writing, which has always been my passion and “dream job”. I guess the point of this post is that I felt very guilty about…
“In a historic first, Amazon drivers and dispatchers in Palmdale, Calif., have joined the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and reached a strong tentative agreement containing a multitude of workplace improvements. The 84 workers won neutrality and voluntary union recognition to join Local 396 in Los Angeles. Local 396 and Joint Council 42 negotiated a tentative agreement with Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner (DSP), Battle-Tested Strategies, on behalf of the new members. “We want fair pay and safe jobs, to be able to provide food for our families. We want to know we will make it home to our families at night after delivering Amazon packages in the extreme heat,” said Rajpal Singh, an Amazon driver in Palmdale. “We organized with the Teamsters to change our working conditions for the better.” You can read more in the Teamsters press release here: https://teamster.org/2023/04/amazon-drivers-join-teamsters-union-reach-agreement-in-historic-victory/ Considering the massive challenges of organizing at Amazon, this is…
“but how will we pay for it”
That sounds kinda fucked up “Thousands of retirees like Franco Hernández pack groceries at supermarkets across Mexico. The volunteer baggers are not formally employed by these companies; rather, they’re part of a government effort that puts retired citizens in touch with supermarkets and other establishments to 'generate an income.'”
I was doing a work order Friday and didn't have time to finish. It was everytime I pulled something out there was another thing that added 2 more things to do. They called me after work hours to complain. And I went to explain to the person in my own time what happened. Then I come in Monday to drop a paper off at the managers desk and saw my name on a paper. It was a write up for not finishing the work order Friday. So I signed in. Whatever I don't care. Then I got called back in saying I was flipping through their desk and the write up was upside down. So I got in trouble for signing the write up without it being handed to me. nd now she thinks I was snooping her desk. Sorry I just had to rant as I am so pissed…
