Today my Provinces (British Columbia) minimum wage increased to $16.75 and as expected the Food and Beverage Sector is screaming bloody murder. The threat of $25 hamburgers was thrown into the rage along with claims that their staff rarely looks at their paycheque and would rather live on customer tips. I'm sure that $25 hamburgers already exist at restaurants where servers live exclusively on tips. That's not what this increase addresses. It's for all of the retail, manufacturing, service jobs including fast food that don't see tips. Employers use tipping against both the consumer and their employees to benefit their bottom line and the tipping culture has gotten out of hand. Many people have stopped or curtailed there dining out activities and record numbers of restaurants are closing or filing for bankruptcy because they aren't necessarily needed. Covid and the resulting economic realities have forced priorities and dining out is…
More Democrats than Republicans just voted to re-start your student loans. What is even the point of the Democratic Party?
This is ridiculous. I attempted suicide 2 months ago due to my work. I need to be available 24/7. Answering emails at 2am and taking calls whenever. They can’t even pay me a livable wage for Fucking ohio, and now that I finally got pushed to my limit, being involuntarily admitted to a psych ward totaling in over $13,000, my doctor hasn’t submitted paperwork for my insurance approval so they paid me 1/3rd on my actual paycheck. I am going to get evicted. Your job does not care about you. After working for live nation and Ticketmaster for over 3 years, I will be evicted in the only time I requested support. After telling them I didn’t get paid, they suggested I make a gofundme, as if they don’t have the money to actually pay me. Unreal.
It's due to the chip readers. The companies that run the chip readers put a default tipping option in their platforms. The chipreaders get a percentage of everything charged, and they push for tips as they get more money that way. Ultimately, it's not about providing additional wages for baristas or counter service workers, etc. It's about a company who hosts chip reader devices wanting more money. You don't have to tip. Unless you're being waited on inside a restaurant, just say no. No tip for counter-work, for pouring me a black coffee, or handing me a togo bag. Why Tipping Should Be Banned A lot of restaurants have moved towards a default 18% gratuity rather than raising their prices, to save on taxes. As apparently, the company has to pay less in taxes on tips rather than wage. We don't go to those restaurants. If you can't afford to…
Let’s be real: avoiding a debt default is primarily about protecting the stock market; i.e., keeping well-off investors from getting too spooked. It was never about saving jobs! The transparent goal of the Federal Reserve with these rate hikes is to slow the economy and get people laid off to slow inflation. This bill will kick the most needy off of government assistance, will let the wealthy cheat on their taxes with less risk, and force borrowers to start paying their student loans without us even knowing if the Supreme Court will let forgiveness go through. If Congress wanted to slow inflation, it could enforce antitrust laws and tax excess profits. If Congress wanted to lower our deficit, it could bring back sensible progressive taxation that is common in the rest of the developed world. But no. This isn’t about either of those things. It’s about making the wealthy wealthier…
I love this quote and I hope it stirs something positive and hopeful in you like it does for me.
Honestly this job is really bad for me, my back hurts so much and my arms is unbelievable, and this for 18 bucks per hour is not worth it, want to quit and find a low pace job honestly what should i do?
