my counteroffer

first time ever providing a counteroffer for a new job. I was already 99% sure that they wouldn't be able to meet me even in the middle, so I thought I'd provide a thoughtful, dignified response. small typo in the DEI Lens section: meant presume, not preclude. I sent them a follow up email correcting that small error. Their response: “Thank you so much for your feedback on the offer and the transparency of your decision making. Unfortunately, we cannot meet your expectations. I truly appreciate the amount of time and thought you put into our process and this email. You have given us a lot to think about. I am sure you will be an incredible asset to the organization you find yourself at.”

Bank withholding my check a ridiculous amount of time -vent

I got paid on Friday, ofc my shit hole of a workplace doesn't do direct deposit so I drive a half hour to my workplace on my day off to pick up my check. Randomly the bank has been holding my checks for an extra day, and this week it was a holiday weekend so they held it an extra day. But its Tuesday and STILL my fucking check is not in my bank account. I call and they tell me “Oh maybe tomorrow.” MAYBE TOMORROW????? Okay so …. i have to show up to work on time, even on the “holiday weekend” and work 10 hour shifts. I have to pick up my own checks and waste the gas and time to do so, and I have to fucking wait half a week for my check to deposit? WHY? I dont want to have to drive all the way…

Should I get a new role or completely switch career paths?

So I’ve been at a cyber software company for 6 years now and we have grown from ~250 people to ~1,000 and were sold and merged in the process. After many of the execs cashed out, the entire upper management team has changed since the re-branding and we’re doing worse than ever in terms of bookings growth (used to be 20-40% yoy and we just did -25% while our top competitor is still doing great). Of course management only reports growth in ARR which is only coming from switching perpetual customers to subscription licensing. At the end of last year we laid off over 200 people after spending wild amounts of money of presidents club and a global company kick off in Vegas. Today they’re way underpaying people who grew the company and know it inside and out compared to new reps claiming that we have less experience in enterprise…

Job market blows

I’m sure there’s been tons of posts about this but I just gotta vent. From my experience it’s been this: No new listings for days, even weeks. Hell, I can’t even find any volunteer work. Not enough experience no matter the position level. And the occasional 3-5 years experience for what’s supposed to be entry level. Okay? insane amount of applicants (and that’s just the ones I see on indeed, so probably more depending if others applied elsewhere) and my chances don’t ever seem good even when they’re hiring multiple candidates. It’s just been a throw you’re name in a hat type of situation. Not hearing back. Either ghosts jobs or too lazy to reject people. Rejections from simpler jobs. Just recently got rejected for a janitor position at a small university despite having experience doing the same kind of work at my high school. 60 + people applied and…

Leadership Sucks

The city where I live is in a state of emergency because of intense wildfires that have ravaged several neighbourhoods. Many of my coworkers have been evacuated from their homes, some have almost certainly lost everything. I myself am only 5 minutes away from the evacuation zone. The GM of our division has said nothing, not a peep. No email offering any support. In fact, none of our leadership team including our site leader has sent ANYTHING out to staff to support them. No emails about company resources that can help (EAP, etc). Nothing. Like, how fking hard is it to send an email that says “We support you in this difficult time”? Bunch of asshats.

My job expects me to arrive 30 minutes early (unpaid) and stay to clean for 30+ minutes (unpaid) after I do the work I am paid for. Is this legal?

Apologies if this isn’t the right sub, it seems like people here are very knowledgeable about this kind of thing. I’m in Chicago, and work for a fitness studio franchise that has its coaches that lead class arrive 30 minutes before their first class, and stay to clean the studio after. I think people have said if you spend more than 30 minutes cleaning then you will start to get paid for it. The arriving early and cleaning are considered part of our “coaching duties” so while we get paid for the classes themselves, we are not paid for any time between classes (anywhere from 5-15 minutes) or the bookend time before and after. This feels wrong to me, but everyone seems to accept it as is. I’ve done a lot of googling to see if this is allowed but can’t really find anything pertaining to this exact situation. I…

Not ready

First please note- I'm in Canada I was granted our version of FMLA which is Family Medical Emergency Leave as my Dad was dying of cancer. He died in a really disturbing way. The leave is 26 weeks but I only took 8 and am back at work. My boss sent me flowers right after I confirmed I'd be returning even though at that point he has been passed for 7 weeks. I get it, they didn't wanna spend money on me if I wasn't coming back. I came back. I thought I was ready. I am not ready. I cannot stop crying. I cannot think. I will never see my Dad again and this place is acting like I just got back from Mexico. My husband thinks I should extend my leave and I'm not ready. I have no clue what my options are but even though I know…
