Completely lost all motivation and now feeling guilty over my procrastination

Remote pharma worker here, nearly 2 years in my current role. I’ve been doing less and less every day for nearly a month while maintaining the illusion that I’m getting things done… and no one knows. Every time we have an internal meeting I’ll say I’m doing what needs to be done and we’re making progress, but I just don’t put in the work. Everything is always “urgent” but clearly that isn’t the case. It’s also made me realize my “super important” work doesn’t actually matter. It’s all bitch work. If it was critical, they would know it wasn’t done. We didn’t get any holiday bonuses or raises this past year. Something about how “profits are down”, yet still in the billions. They used to give merit-based raises during performance evaluations, then switched to a flat rate company-wide, and now I guess it’s a big fat nothing. I’m torn between…

Never mailed my W-2

So I quit a job last year and they never mailed me my W-2. When I’ve emailed HR they would give me a link to obtain it digitally but I don’t remember my employee ID number etc. to obtain it. Are employers legally obligated to mail a W-2 on request or are there exceptions for big employers because they sent me a 1095-C form but no W-2. I need to file my taxes now.

I keep getting allocated (too much) work

I’m going to keep my job role vague as it’s potentially outing. I work for a large organisation within the UK. We are chronically understaffed at the moment. The team I work for has gone from the benchmarked 12 to now 5 of us. People have left for a variety of reasons, but many have commented on the pressures on us as a team from senior management as we’re still having to hit previous targets despite being so understaffed. So here is my issue. I keep getting allocated work with ridiculously short deadlines. The emails come saying “sorry for the right deadline, but you know how understaffed we are”. I’ve spoken to my line manager numerous times about how unrealistic the deadline have been. I’ve offered to show her my diary so she can see how it’s physically impossible to fit it in. She always declines and starts the narrative…

Unpaid work meeting

Hi I have a mandatory meeting tomorrow during my lunch break. The company is buying us lunch but yet not paying us for our time. As a rule I don't like doing work related things and not being paid. Can they do this? In the state of Maryland if that helps.

How much can my job change from under me?

I work in a bio dept in a bio company, with a bio degree. Now my boss sending me engineering journals(when i say “it’s all Greek to me”, I also mean it literally), is assigning me engineering type projects, that even might involve doing it independently, then going to the engineering team and telling them to do this on their projects, and giving input on their engineering/design decisions! Do I take him aside and remind him of what my background is? Someone in my contracted role wouldn’t have a background for this , and someone with an engineering background wouldn’t consider applying for the role I’m in. What the heck am I to do here?

The average wage for US ordinary workers in 2021 would have been $42/hour had unions remained as strong as in 1964. Instead, it was $26/hour.

I just got fired for being “too organized”

I'm just seeking advice on how to move forward and what to make of this. I've been working at a relatively new edtech company for a year and a half. I was called into HR this afternoon to speak with the HR director and fired, to me very much out of the blue. The HR director told me that I make “too much noise” and gave me two examples: 1. I once pushed back against a request for 3 days of vacation denied that I had requested months in advance because my parents are traveling across the world to visit me in a few months and 2. because I sent an email to HR on behalf of my department (of 6 people) because we didn't understand the results of our performance evaluations. The HR director told me that I am “too organized” for the company and it was no…
