Vent: my supervisor’s supervisor is gunning for me.

I’ve been at my job (social worker in mental health dept. at a county jail) for nearly 2 years. At the 1 year mark, I received a stellar performance review and a raise. Cool. Haven’t had any issues…until 3 weeks ago. My boss’s boss, let’s call her Barbie, scolded me for socializing after work hours with one of my officer friends in the front lobby, as she has seen me multiple times doing this. Her explanation: I’m not to remain in the property for any reason once I’ve clocked out and I’m not to speak with said officer moving forward. My boss was notified, did his own investigation with Captain of jail, who said that there was no problem. Oooookay? Second week: I’m called into Barbie’s office to say that it was reported by an officer that I scheduled a professional visit for an inmate without informing anyone and I…

My personal anecdotal evidence on how the working landscape has regressed.

I have worked at a fortune 500 telecommunications company laying/installing fiber optic wire for almost 15 years now. My union backed trade is specialized, requires a lot of training, and a sizable portion of the population couldn’t perform the job due to the physical requirements. There was a hiring freeze here from 2002-2008, during which time they rolled out new services requiring more employees than currently staffed. Instead of hiring and expanding the existing work group, they created a new lower tier position with less strenuous job responsibilities and lower corresponding pay. Issues have arisen over time due to the company slowly consolidating the higher tier work onto the lower tier department with only minimal raises. As of 2023, my department now does approximately 95% of what the old positions work entailed as well as specialized work they were never forced learn due to it not being in their contract…

Low KPI bc I took vacation and got a .50 cent raise after working OT for 6 months straight. How can I tackle this.

I work for a company that provides you with your daily tasks. While this is nice, there’s no way to tell when a new task appears on your board. So if it appears late it’s your fault even though the system has so many flaws to the point other people have access to changing your task. I’m told to write these stuff down but at the same time I’m told there’s nothing my company can do. I’ve submitted a ticket for my tech team to look at but my supervisor and tech team are either ignoring the request or telling me “it is what it is”. I just got my recent review for a score of 97%. While it’s still good, i know it is 97% some of these tasks appear late and I have no control over it. My first review was “under expectations” because I took a two…

New hire rant

About a month ago, I was reached out to regarding a supervisor position at a coffee and donut shop that was in the next city over (so like, a 30 minute drive each way). I went to the interview, spoke with the store manager and he had trouble finding my resume and asked what I applied for. He then started listing off positions available and said “cake decorator”. Now I've never heard of this chain and had no idea they did cakes. I do baking in my spare time so of course I took him up on that offer since, according to him, his current cake decorator was moving soon and he needed the position to be filled. I was so happy about this job and agreed to work front counter so I could familiarize myself with the store. First day of work, boss isn't there. Employees had no idea…

Indeed assessments

So I've been applying to jobs on indeed for the past 4 months (no luck) and I keep seeing requests on the emails I get to take a skills test or an assessment. Which to then I see that it's supposedly not used at all for the hiring process or after it if hired, so what's the deal? Can you just ignore those?

Tired of greedy international companies

I am a latino guy looking for a remote job in my home country . Firstly, I sent my CV to Hostinger. They were looking for a Client Customer Success representative. Job seemed to be good and I sent my salary expectations which were according to my previous experience. They replied back with an offer of $700 per month ($4,3 per hour) while in the US they will pay aprox $3500 ($20 per hour) for the same duties and schedule. I know we don’t spend the same like in the US but you shouldn’t pay 5 times less than there! After some weeks, I apply again to another company based in Europe but working with US clients. They told me that I will be hired by them, have a contract with them but my boss and duties will come from the US company. What about the payment? $700 a month.…

Help with Quitting my Job this Friday

Hi everyone. I am going to give in my two week notice this Friday for my current job (started in August 2022). I’m really nervous about doing it because I hate confronting people but my partner is moving for residency to a different state and I’m using this opportunity to leave the current city I live (and grew up/born here) and start fresh. I know I did this job for 9 months but truthfully it was one of the worst jobs I had. My coworkers are bitchy and mean and I’ve been their out group with them ordering food without me and treating me like shit and picking up their task. I did a lot of errand work because I was under a 6 month probation and I didn’t want to get fired or get it extended but I’m sick of this feeling of fear of getting fired. On top…
