Nice lil thought experiment to see people's opinions on how they personally would fix the country. No right or wrong answers here, just mere discussion. I'm aware of the very left leaning mentality folks have here so I'm going to ask the same question amongst Right Wing circles to see what their solutions are. And then post a couple of them here and compare.
In a matter of days, I've seen important truths about work expressed here I've known for many years but was unable to put into words or have anybody who would listen. Mainly workplace corruption, abuse, exploitation of labor, favoritism, cliques, meritocracy myth, and everything toxic making work dreadful day prisons for millions of regular people. And the meaninglessness of it all to boot. They've stolen enough of my time as it is, now I just want peace and to be productive on my own terms. Thanks for listening I hope you get the ideal living you want.
Hey guys, I was wondering how I should go about using my remaining PTO before I quit my job in June. Combined with having Memorial Day off I could feasibly not work another 5 day week until I quit. For context I've been working an entry-level office job in an industry I want no future in since the end of March. I always planned on quitting at the beginning of August at the latest to go back to school but I hate being there 40 hours a week so have decided on June 14th as the end date. In the month and a half I've been there I've already used 4 days of PTO (2 sick days and 2 floating holidays) and am a bit worried they'll get suspicious that I'm taking so much time off in my first (and last) two and a half months. I don't really plan…

Since when is lifestyle choice a prerequisite for a raise? And those lifestyle bumps are probably just inflation anyway.
I'm sick of hearing how great the economy is now and how unemployment is so low and that is an “employees market”. I live in Cleveland Ohio. The job market here sucks. My job history is fast food restaurant management. I have a large work gap because my last child was born with a lot of disabilities and needed full time care for years while he got therapies and stuff. During that gap time I got an associates degree in business and a bachelor's degree in complementary and alternative health. My plan was to open my own business making and selling soaps and candles and wax melts and other things that have holistic purposes. Well that didn't happen because I can't get the financing. During Covid I left the restaurant industry for a job as a case manager assisting renters with rental assistance and utility assistance. Until the campaign abruptly…
A year ago, I was working for a company that had classified me as an independent contractor. I had made a recent, apparently popular comment about my story there where some of you had mentioned about misclassification and shared your stories about this. Since the details of the job was vaguely described and conducted over phone/video call, I was wary of submitting anything with a successful resolution. I did not provide this company notice when I found a job to replace it. I did not leave on good terms and pretty much stopped showing up to work. In doing so, I was delivered a godsend to my case now: an email informing me I was being fired. The thing is: 1099 contractors should not have the ability to be fired because technically they are not employees that can be fired, nor should the contractor have the ability to quit until…
Workaholics die before alcholics
I work for a big hotel company. I’m pretty sure I started here last March, so it’s been over a year. We are supposed to have quarterly/some time amount reviews for raises. I’ve been asking my managers for access to check stubs for a while, but they cannot/have not been given access to it by their supervisor to then give the access to me. I also can’t get them to do my evaluations for raises, as I am making the same amount of money I was when I started here. Is there anything I can do in regards to either of these problems?
