Obviously we see a ton of bullshit companies who don’t give a shit about employees or pay them what they are worth— but (as someone looking for a career change to escape the worst end of the capitalism nightmare) where is a positive place or industry to work? Sure any for profit business is part of the capitalism game but surely there’s SOME places that aren’t total hellholes, right???
A very lovely one
I am planning to leave my current job after 6 years. A lot of factors have gone into it, and it was a rough decision for me as I view my current coworkers more as a family than coworkers, but the biggest reason is financially I can’t afford to stay. I know my boss will be upset I’m leaving because I am a valuable worker, but I am extremely underpaid and there is not any room for growth at my company. In the 6k years I’ve been there, I’ve only had 2 raises. My boss is not known to give raises at all, most of my coworkers are severely underpaid, and his reasoning is that we get good health insurance and the “benefits package” equates to making more money. The two raises in it’s own says something about my work ethic, but even if he gave me a raise I…
Listen, I've had it with this whole working-for-a-living thing. I mean, sure, I need to pay my bills and all that, but the idea that I have to spend most of my waking hours doing something I don't care about just to survive? That's ridiculous. I'm ready to join the anti-work movement and say “enough is enough!” I'm tired of feeling like I'm just a cog in a machine, working for someone else's profit while barely getting by myself. And don't even get me started on the way employers treat their workers these days. We're expected to do more and more with less and less, and for what? A pat on the back and a meager paycheck? No thanks. I know some people might say that we have to work hard to get ahead, to achieve our dreams and all that. But what about the idea that maybe work isn't…

I have been housekeeping at a different location for a while but the commute was kicking my ass. I finally found somewhere close and pays more, I was excited and they already knew I had experience in housekeeping. They were aware about my disability (Deaf/I wear hearing aids) But am very independent and know how to do rooms on my own. I trained 5 days and then another new girl started on my 5th day. now usually when I was trained in previous hotels they trained us all separately. I didn’t complain but thought it was odd they started her off with me when my training was on its last day. She stated she never did hotel housekeeping before. We get to the laundry room and because their laundry…

Evolution of Wage
In 1998 I had a BS degree and made $8/hour. Today I have an MS degree and make $21/hour. I used to have that famous poster with the expensive cars in my teenage bedroom “Justification for higher education”.
