Am I being forced to violate HIPPA?
I work at a doctor’s office as a receptionist. I have never worked in a medical setting but have some knowledge since I have family in the medical field. Occasionally, the doctors ask us to help them out with procedures they’re performing on patients, like minor in-office surgeries, cleaning up after those messy procedures, putting TENS machine patches on patients, and taking x-rays. The doctor had me draw a medication/liquid he was going to inject into the patient multiple times, and it scares me everytime because I have no training! I’m not a medical assistant! It just feels wrong, and there are other numerous sketchy things about this job and practice that I don’t feel comfortable with, but I’m scared to report it, even anonymously, because we are a very small office, and I need this job. Also, my coworkers and I never received any OSHA or HIPPA training, just…
Him and I had a conversation in the office when everyone was gone. He mentioned that he decided not to hire the new Sales Assistant because she wasn’t attractive and was surprised that the GM hired her regardless. He must think she’s attractive. The Owner of the company decided to not have a basketball hoop because the Latinos wouldn’t be interested in it. He even went on and talked about his High School reunion and saw how many people people have passed away and wonder if he married the girl he had a crush on than his less than attractive wife. Dude is wild… Wish I had it recorded.
Remote Workers of the World, Unite!
Excuse my Tarzan’s English, but it’s not my first language. Well, I was pretty desperate to find a job and I ended up with a former boss who offered me a position at his company. The catch was that the position meant working at the career I studied at uni and at the same time, at his dinner. But he didn’t tell me that it will be washing the dishes and getting the tables done! I though it will be a more strategic position (silly me). I’m paying for my college loans and serving food to people two times a week, working at the office five (the days I’m in the dinner I have to work at both places). And don’t get me wrong, it’s not terrible to work at a dinner. It’s a fine job. But now I have two, and get paid for one. And I’m not working…
External HR
I know HR is not our friend, but I think even worse is the fact that so many companies now are using external HR consultants. I don't really have any background knowledge on them, so if someone has done research on this and has insight, please share! But my current and previous employer use external HR to handle HR issues. tbh I don't even think my current company really even makes an effort (and I love my job and enjoy working for my company). HR isn't our friend, but even so it feels like Carol down the hall in HR would still care more than some consultant three timezones away.
How is it possible to live without work?
Forgive me for sounding ignorant but it seems so unrealistic. I understand making the work environment more enjoyable and less restrictive. But the idea that id be able to live a full life and afford it without working seems silly. It makes me think of trust fund kids who live off their parents money. Is this really the goal of antiwork or am i missing something?
