Had an accident in Australia. Nothing to do with work, traffic accident. Ended up in hospital with some fractures. Asked the doctor for a note for work. He gave one but had zero details about what happened or my condition, just that i cant work for a certain time period. I thought it was a mistake, so I asked him about it. He said “nah, all your work should know is that you're unfit to work. They have no legal right to know more. What if you were unfit to work because of something drugs or alcohol related, you wouldn't want them to know, right?” reread this and let it sink in dear Americans.

So my grandmother died a week ago. She lived several US states away from me so there was no way for me to make the funeral and I had to attend via zoom link while still clocked in at work Saturday. I emailed my boss saying effective immediately I was going to be taking my 3 paid days off. She texted me this morning and said that because it was such short notice, her boss was on PTO, and the other manager is taking the weekend off that said bereavement was denied. I'm so frustrated with this stupid company but specifically my boss. She fucks over our schedules, fucks over out PTO, let's one specific associate do just whatever the hell while the rest of us are held to an entirely different standard and now this. This is it, this is our whole life. We do forced work at a corporation until we die. A vast majority of our waking hours are devoted to a billionaire. I’m a servant for seventy years. We work to afford a place to rest from our work. To afford transportation to our labor. Forced work. Chores. Dinner. Repeat until death. Forget the poverty aspect of capitalism. The mental illness from years of forced menial labor has driven me insane. I make decent money, but it’s meaningless. When can I spend it? On the 4 days of free time I have per month? I have to do life shit like grocery shop on Sundays. One day of rest per week with no children. Humans are not supposed to live like this. Capitalism is definitely a form of slavery. Just out of curiosity. Worried I'm about to lose my job… I work a travel job where I go all over the East Coast doing hardware installs for various chains. Last night my phone gave up the ghost. Literally just finally died. Stuck in a boot loop. I've tried everything to fix it and I can't get it working. I need it for GPS, to make calls, to check in and out of work, etc etc. Obviously the smartphone is an essential tool for navigating today's world, right? Well, when I emailed my bosses about it they responded that I needed to be at work on time today. I NEEDED to be. I've never missed a day of work before and I've been employed here for over a year.
