Hi everyone. I just started a new job at a DIY chain store in the UK. Job seems alright but not sure about the main store manager. I have a manager, but for my department who I’ve not worked with yet. The main store manager however likes to pull people from their departments whenever he likes to do his dirty work which includes moving furniture, playing IT guy, painting his office door frames etc… I have also been told that he ‘isn’t the kind of guy you want to keep waiting or piss off’. He rips into staff from what I’ve heard in front of customers and staff. Is this legal? Is this a bad manager? I’ve just also found out I’m working on Sundays from 8:00 till 17:00 without a break at all, but can go home an hour early. Why can’t they rota it properly where it shows…
This is a tough subject for me, as this is a very tough situation. I’m gonna give you the complete picture as much as I can though, and of course include a TLDR at the end. But I’m thankful if you do read this whole thing. My mom is the strongest person I know. She’s a retired Army medic, who saw the Army as her only way out of the poverty she grew up in. And honestly, she was right. She made it when a lot of her siblings didn’t… But, she was deployed into active combat and came out of it very fucked up. She’s very disillusioned and distrustful of the US government after, and that includes the general American dream associated with working. But she’s been broken by them too and so has an Army mindset of just sticking through it no matter what. After the military she…
Anti social at work
I find it hard to make friends at work these days. I go into office rarely leave my chair, go grab a coffee on my own as needed. I used to go for coffee with colleagues, I call them my coffee buddies all retired during pandemic. Now I find it hard to have conversations with the new people I work with let alone going for coffee. Is it the pandemic that makes people anti social or is it me anti social as I get older?
Karma, it's a bitch
Hey all. I just called off work cus I’m having a chemical pregnancy and am in a lot of pain. I cut hair so I stand all day and move around a lot and just didn’t think I could power through the pain (and emotional pain) of having a miscarriage. My boss shamed me because she said she “googled” a chemical pregnancy and she said it’s just a period but it’s not and it’s very painful sometimes for women. My periods alone are enough to call out for but add a chemical on top of it and it’s even worse. Just feeling kinda shitty rn and would love some good vibes
Time to look for new job
I was totally burnt out and passed out recent Wednesday which I ended up in the hospital. I was put in iv therapy. I was sent back home also texted my boss a note from dr saying I cant work Thursday and Friday this week. My boss insists I work to make up the hours but can't really work if I don't take care of myself. Its just that I need to get started by looking for new jobs now. There's a group policy that says advanced sick leave is allowed but again manager saying hr is monitoring. I even left all doctors notes which are legit. It looks like they don't care about a persons health but worrying how work will get completed. My workload is out of control anyways also shortstaffed. Im sure this happens everywhere. We need to take care of ourselves and look elsewhere. Its not…
Feel the anxiety!
Merry Christmas, your last day is today.
Laid off, while on FMLA, with dozens of others. Why do corporations lay off during holidays? I assume it’s end of the year accounting? Anyway, bought by equity firm last year, unemployed for the start of this one. What’s next for my co-workers that remain? Just finished Christmas shopping too! Hate feeling like I wish I hadn’t.
