Anybody hates how personal work is becoming. Emails, phone calls, work chats enroaching on your personal time. I would like to just clock in and clock out. I refuse to join any work chats . I’ll respond to emails during work hours. No need for me to be contacted on my personal devices.

So I've been working for a small business for about 10 years. The pay is decent and the hours fit in with my schedule so in many ways I'm loathe to jump ship because 'better the devil you know'. But my boss is a nightmare. He habitually overbooks jobs, and also gives clients unrealistic timelines. So it then falls to me to explain to unhappy customers why we aren't meeting their expectations. I've asked him multiple times to give out more realistic timeframes but he dismisses me and says the rest of us just need to 'hurry up and work quicker'. He's always been like this and I've learned to manage it to a certain extent by following up his emails and phone calls with more factual information. But lately he's started just checking out of work in general. He's not completing jobs himself, not answering calls or emails and…

Groupon laid off ~500 employees today. 80% in North America and India. Small groups were informed in 15 min long zoom calls. Teams were GUTTED. Everyone was told they would get their separation and severance information in separate emails after the call. That was this morning. It’s currently quarter past 5 in Chicago and no one has said email. No one knows what’s up with their benefits or anything else. Total sh*t show.

Parents watching the “news” and they report that “nobody wants to work” the “good dirty jobs” anymore because they all entitled. That they are being “propped up by the government” and are “all living with their parents”. This is hard because these people actually take this shit in and believe it, like a whole generation are just full of lazy people. It doesn’t help that yes, I moved back with them, but this is because I stopped working to take care of my grandmother, and when I did I decided to go to grad school… well now she’s gone and thankfully they offered to let me stay while I finish school… but they just seem to forget why I’m not working, that I used to work, and that I’m going to be working… yes, I’m getting loans to help me but all of this doesn’t mean I am lazy and…

Her job position was “eliminated” all the while she had plenty of work to do yesterday and more scheduled tomorrow.
