How to make 4 day work week possible.
Looking for some help coming up with ideas on how to make a 4 day work week possible for my staff. I have 3 employees not including myself. We are a customer service based retail type company. The hours of the business are 8am – 5pm Monday to Friday and during the summer we are open 9-1 Saturday. We each take a turn being on call for a week. Right now we have the on call person for the week come in at 830 and stay until 5, as well as working the Saturday by themselves. The other 3 come in at 8 and leave at 430.
How to transition to STAFF ACCOUNTANT from .. I have 10 years of solid experience in managing Order To Cash (credit, collections, cash app, billing) in F500 environments; 3 jobs in that period, most recent got laid off on Wed before Turkey Day FML. I want to finally transition out of accounts receivable and into general accounting. I took a hair cut on my salary the last job, so now that I'm unemployed earning zero, is the perfect time to find a general accountant role. CPA isn't an option… I need to put food on the table. I'm not going to lie on my resume & find myself underqualified in a few days. I'm wondering how to apply to these roles when their HR or ATS to just spit my resume out. I'm thinking on the summary on top mention I'm shifting careers within Accounting. If it's a role that…
I work for the office of a major moving company. We're the headquarters of a co-op and numerous smaller businesses work locally across the country to enable cross-country moves. The board of directors consists of the owners of several of the major agents and they call the shots. I started Summer of 2017 after leaving the world of Substitute Teaching behind. Every time I have changed positions, it has not been by choice by by necessity: first time was when I was a seasonal employee and the season had ended, and then next time due to my manager getting fired and her director restructuring the team (which I'm convinced was really because the other guy doing my job didn't like me), and then the following time due to my team downsizing. I have managed each time to find another position with the company before my 2 weeks were up or…
I am autistic and struggle with a ton of issues overall, but I struggle with the amount of time I work. I was supposed to work Part time but the manager asked me to be full time since someone quit unexpectedly. I told her I'm a bit uncomfy, but I'll try to do it and if it becomes too much I'd tell her. Well, of course, I got burnt out. And fast. Worked Tuesday to Sunday, 4 or so of those days being 10 hours. I told her it felt like to much on my body (I am Cronically ill, not just “lazy” like some like to say) and maybe we can try 2 days on, 2 off, 2 on so she'd still have a FT person. She agreed. That never happened. She'd put me 2 on, 1 off, 3+ on. Told her finally my therapist is heavily suggesting I…
Did my employer illegally union bust?
Hello all, I work for a company centered in the Midwest, but we have employees all across the country, hybrid work model for most. Recently, more and more folks were talking about starting a union, so we’ve been in talks for the past month with our local chapter of our [redacted name] union and it turns out senior leadership within company had asked an employee (1099-contractor) to break up the union and talk to coworkers to change their minds on voting to authorize a union, subsequently effecting our (future) election. We believe she is reporting to them this info as well. This was admitted to a union member by the 1099 contractor. (They didn’t know they were part of our union). We recorded this via text as it was happening. Roughly 60% of folks are already on board to support, but we’re now concerned our vote is altered because of…
How do we fight back?
I work for a very problematic US healthcare company e.g. the multimillionaire ceo took advantage of the pandemic to give himself a 336% raise and that's not even the worst by far. The technicians by contrast are offered $15/hr starting pay. Along with every other suffocating financial pressure of life in America, life is getting to be impossible. It is disgusting and it's unsafe for patients and workers. I am tired of playing along and complaining at home. So what do we do? I have no idea how to start a union. Even as a consumer, I am at a loss. Are we all just irrevocably fucked? Even if so, I want to go down kicking and screaming. Any suggestions on how to stick it to the 1% would be very welcome.
A slight update on the job I quit
Gather around, boys and girls! It's time for a story. So I (sort of) recently left [trailer manufacturing company]. While I was grateful for a job outside of customer service and for their willingness to train me to weld, gratitude in either direction rarely pays the bills. I was there for a little over 2 years and really got my mig skills down- some of my welds were borderline art. People would stop by my station on the way to the bathroom to watch me work and ask for tips. Our safety supervisor stopped by to take pictures of my fabrication process to be used in company training (true story). We all had to go through a welding course in December of last year and I passed all my tests on the first try. Word is that only 4 of us did that, out of probably 80-100 people. Near the…
