The New York Times reports that President Biden told a group of billionaires at a fundraising event Thursday night: “We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis.” Biden continued: “We are trying to figure out: What is Putin’s off ramp? Where does he find a way out? Where does he find himself where he does not only lose face but significant power?” These are questions that Biden should ask himself. Having instigated the US-NATO proxy war, provided Ukraine with unlimited weapons and money, pledged the reconquest of Crimea, and called for regime change in Russia, what is Biden’s “off ramp”? How can he deescalate “where he does not only lose face but significant power?” The Times, in a masterpiece of polite understatement, notes that “Mr. Biden’s references to Armageddon were highly unusual for any American president.” Not merely unusual, absolutely unique. Moreover, he…
As the title says, I just got a job that I've been interested in for months and I was so damn excited. I just spoke to the owner and my first two days I'm scheduled to work/train from open to close – 10am to 10pm. I literally do not think I can physically or mentally do that, I'm disabled (not physically) and it's a retail job. Is this some sort of tactic to weed out the weak??? I'm so overwhelmed. How the fuck are 12 hour shifts even allowed? I don't know how my Dad has worked them on and off for 35+ years. What was supposed to be exciting is now really stressing me out and upsetting me. I'm on disability, so I think maybe I need to discuss accommodations with my employer? Or reach out to the disability agency and see if they'd be able to do anything…
My current job position at Dunkin Donuts has been having me contemplating a seemingly multi layered societal/life/existential question. I don't know what that question is specifically, aside from what do you think the true nature of the supposed labor shortage is? I've never been a manager, but have been denied the simplest of jobs and admittedly tweaked my blue collar resume to for my job search needs. I NEVER used to have such trouble finding a job, even with a recent record. Pre Cword. I'm talking literally all the way up to 2019. I was in addiction and just didn't keep jobs for long. Fast forward to present day with still current enough convictions .. I cannot land jobs but everywhere is so desperate supposedly and short staffed my I know at my Dunkin and other Dunkin's we are. Dunkin is also not known for decent and progressive pay like…
This was the original post. https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/uz87xq/85_degree_bakery_enabled_tips_on_their_point_of/ The guy who called me was pretty honest. He said the people above him said the original complaint wasn't legit enough to respond to or follow through on (they basically thought it was a fake post or someone trolling). The reason he called me nearly 5 months later is because he came across information that legitimized the claim. We talked for a bit about employment in general (I brought up this sub in particular) and he said he'd like me to email him on anything that comes through as a legit complaint in the future. With regard to the 85c complaint; he stated that the most they could do was mail over a “strongly worded letter” that wasn't legally enforceable, and that they couldn't really do anything above and beyond on. However, he encouraged me to reach out to this sub (particularly the 85c…
I'll make this quick. I got the job at a local retail store (Job A) paying $12/H. Couldn't negotiate a higher wage. Just found out today (5 days after getting accepted for $12 job) that the job I originally wanted (job B will pay me $20/H) wants me to start in a week. What do I do? Should I tell job A that I found a better job and that I'm not coming in tomorrow or should I work job A until job B is ready. For more info, I'm good financially right now, mainly just trying to see if it's a good idea to start a job for literally a week then quit and move to the next one.
TLDR; lied to a recruiter and said I wasn't looking for any more jobs after I took the offer, will probably take a different job in a few weeks/a month tops. So I was laid off from my job with no notice (fucking at will employment), and as I moved recently I had very little money and needed a job in a week or less. I applied to several jobs in my field, several basic temp jobs, and several restaurant positions. I got three offers, two for restaurant work and one for a temp-to-perm gig. I told everyone involved I'd take a few days to think about which one I'd go with, and during that time I got a call for an interview in one of the jobs in my field. I decided to take the temp-to-perm gig in the short term while continuing the interview process for the other…
Before working at my current job(which also sucks)I applied to work at a gas station since it's a 10 minute walk away, I went in, asked to apply and they told me to go through their website and all that stuff. Found out the salary was 15$ an hour and thought I could work with it. When the time came to do the interview she mentioned benefits early on and we somehow landed on the topic of salary. Apparently the hourly pay wasn't 15$, but 11. I wasn't happy at the fact that I was lied to and she tried to justify it with “good benefits”. So I purposefully ruined the interview by being as vulgar and passive aggressive as possible. Was it petty? Perhaps, but I didn't appreciate having my time wasted so I decided to waste a bit of theirs. Q:”Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”…
