tl;dr quiet quitting just means no more free labor handouts to shit employers

When I first entered the workforce I would go above and beyond because I assumed there was an unwritten agreement between employers and workers that going above and beyond would be recognized by management and result in raises and promotions. I soon realized that in reality most employers just thought I was a sucker who they could “reward” with more work for the same pay and a pat on the back if I went above and beyond the norm. Perhaps it was somewhat true for previous generations that rewards were tied to performance without legally binding commitments (i wouldn't know as I only entered the workforce fairly recently), but based on my own experience and exchanging experiences with people around the world, it certainly isn't true now. So from now on, we're not taking an employer's word for it that going above and beyond will result in raises and promotions,…

I’m a (literal) World Class tattoo artist, but I CAN’T make minimum wage in the UK. Shall I kill myself out of shame, or shall I kill myself out of pity?

It’s very surprising how many here clearly don’t understand inflation well.

New Job Observations

So this last year I've been working for a consulting firm in disaster Relief. My consulting firm often works hand in hand with others. I was recently let go from a project for requesting access to a shared drive from one of my consulting firms emails which was apparently the wrong one. I don't see how this wasn't just a deny access and then tell me to use my other email….but oh well. Although it offered no benefits, it brought in about 70k a year. The firm tried to find other work for me but we're unable to do so. So here we are, two weeks after closing on my house and now have no income. Scrambling to stop the bleeding I swallow my pride and do whatever I can to keep my family afloat. I started working for Dominos here this past week and it just blows my mind…

wild change in job description.

My (state) employer is doing a pressure campaign against us to do roles that they won't hire for. I work for an at will state. We now have to do 15 people's work with only 10 left. ( Five quit.) We are expected to “rotate” the responsibility between us. It's for a different position we weren't hired for. No extra money has been offered and these expectations are a big stress including travel and basically being on sudden call at any time the skeleton crew left is unable to do the work. Everyone relies on their job and can't renegotiate a dramatic change to thier job description under the threat of sudden termination. Heeeelllp lol

Non-compete questions

I work at a smaller IT company who manage around 70-80 clients with around 20 employees. One of our clients (who I have grown quite close with and have managed nearly on my own for the past 2 years) has offered to hire me full time as their sole IT guy. In general sense of non-compete agreements, would my current company have grounds to sue either me or the client if I were to take this offer? The only reason I come here to ask is simply because I don't want my current company to know I might be considering this offer and I am unsure as to how to ask our HR for my non-compete agreement without raising flags.
