Sister has a bs in finance and a masters in public accounting, and the way that public accounting is set up is running her ragged. No one is getting into the field anymore, so they can’t hire others. They keep piling her assignments on, have added a second location and 45 minute commute to her responsibilities, and a $1000 bonus as the only compensation is supposed to make it all OK. She’s looking for an out into some sort of related industry that is reasonable where she wouldn’t have to start at the bottom, but is willing to up and quit to get away from the stress and be free to do some interviews. I thought antiwork might have a lead on how she can reclaim her respect by getting away from this employer without wasting her education and years of training.
Wondering if my ex employer can withhold my paycheck if I don’t return a door key. I’m from California, and left on poor terms despite my efforts to be cordial and don’t exactly want to go back to face my employer. I had direct deposit set up, and they also have my mailing address. Can they withhold my final paycheck, and if not, how would I approach the topic of a contactless final paycheck payment?

favorite anti-work slogans?
I design and sell shirts as a side business for myself (because commodifying my art hobby as a side hustle is the only way I can pay my bills) and have been thinking about creating a line of anti work shirts. Mostly this thought started because I bought an antiwork shirt and wore it openly as a fuck you to a toxic boss and loved that feeling and now I want to pass that on for others to have the same experience. I have a few ideas but thought opening this question to the floor and seeing what some of your favorite slogans are could help my creative process. Some of my first thoughts: Work Your Wage Tax billionaires, Unionize Workers Lean out Give up the Grind Some riff on: Nobody wants to work anymore I will probably do lino cut style illustrations for these but have some other ideas…
Hello, me again. To sum up the previous post, my HR told me I have to get my light duty revoked by my doctor, or I will have no job and will need to take unpaid medical leave. She claims the company policy is that there is no light duty. I have since found out multiple people both present and in the past have been on light duty with no issues, so it's not a policy effectively enforced across the board. Today, I advanced the issue above my supervisor and HR to the owner of the company personally. He promptly came back to me, and i quickly filled him in on the situation. He took the appropriate channels to trump what HR claimed. The matter was handled within 30 minutes. They decided to change my job title from silk screen production to packaging. This is a job that I know…

Bait and switch recruiting
About one month ago I applied for two roles at two different consultancy companies. One well known in the industry (Company A) and the other a bit bespoke but hugely successful (Company B). Company A got back to me first, discussed salary expectations and offered an interview. The minute I arrive things are weird. The woman who would be my direct manager arrives and instantly cannot make eye contact, small talk, and directs me to go to the kitchenette near the interview room by myself to make my own glass of water while she prepares the room. At this point I’m mingling with the other employees and have to find my own way back to the interview. Red flags everywhere but hey maybe she’s just odd. The interview starts, the other interviewer is on video call and is super personable, frequently saying how impressive my resume is and the whole…
