Working two jobs to make ends meet…
I live in a pretty large and well know US city. My friend just graduated last year with a BA in GIS. They had a hard time finding a job so when one finally popped up they took it. Fast forward a couple of months and we were talking about how it was going. The job pays 43k to monitor air and water around factories to make sure they are in compliance with state and federal regulations. The friend has had to work almost every weekend at her old job waiting tables just to make ends meet. This week their boss found out that almost all employees are working too jobs. To fix this they said “We will ask to see if upper management will give you a 10k COL adjustment.” I can't believe that management is so detached from the situation that they didn't even know that they don't…

Fired for… not submitting hours?
Hi all — I need a bit of advice here. I forgot to submit my hours for a week of work, but an onboarding email from HR said this: “Abusing your allowed working hours or forgetting to submit your hours on time will constitute immediate termination. We have a zero tolerance for not submitting your hours on time and NO payroll tickets will be issue resulting in loss wages for that week.” Is there a way to get my money without being fired? Is this even legal?? I live in the US in New Jersey, and I really need a FULL next paycheck 🙁
Feeling ‘stuck’ at work
I’ve been working for the same company in the same type of job for 10 years. I’ve put a lot of effort in to networking into a different job, and I feel like it’s just not working. This company is very good at ‘brainwashing’ (for lack of a better term), and I feel like I’m a victim of it…there are times that I can’t imagine leaving this company. And then I stop and think about how ridiculous that sounds to tie my’self’ to a company. Hard to know how to feel. I would rather just not work-but unfortunately I live in a world where things cost money.
It seems like it would be better to be homeless in Europe than live paycheck to paycheck in America. Why aren’t more people moving? Is it just the logistics of moving so far away? Hesitancy to leave family and familiar surroundings? Hardly anyone I’ve talked to in real life has any desire to leave America. It feels like I’m the only one.
its a snow a day so all of our technicians didnt show up. I am one of the office people for my department who is more than capable of doing the technician job but covering for them isn’t on my job description. Nor have I received any training for the job I am not responsible for. I have no fear of getting fired because there are some not so ethical things happening behind the scenes that we all just happen to be okay with. (things that could easily bankrupt the company and I am well aware of what they are and where to report). I recently got a 2% raise, but for my workload and work ethic i figured i deserved at least 3%. My boss is a chill dude who doesnt micromanage but today told me “we have to play technician today” which I know means me and not…
