Hi, I work for a large movie theater chain in the US, specifically Ohio. Recently our GM made everyone sign a sheet stating that any received tips must be placed into our registers, and we are not allowed to keep them. I know that this would be illegal if we were considered “tipped employees” (FSLA) but we are not. I feel like this is likely illegal regardless, but I'm having trouble finding anything in US or Ohio law with any information on non-tipped employees receiving tips. Anyone have some insight?
Vent about work!
I work in packaging for a HUGE company in the cannabis industry and I just need to vent about them. I am quitting soon anyway so whatever. Where do I even begin on why it sucks here… first and foremost: THE ATTITUDE FROM MANAGEMENT! Super off-putting. They almost never acknowledge you, will look at you funny if you ask questions, they require us to wear smocks, masks, and hairnets but almost never follow those rules themselves. From the minute I even sat through the awkward orientation my supervisor made snarky remarks about the vaccine, and rushed through a lot of safety information just to get me onto the floor faster. Management will also just have conversations through you like you're not there, which imo is really weird and rude. The most interaction I've had with my managers are through many disappointing announcements. A coworker of mine told me that she…
Thanking you all today!
Am I required to show up at work on my day off for a mandatory staff meeting? I am salaried, but also curious how this would affect my hourly coworkers. I received an email (sent to everyone, not just me) reprimanding those who did not show up.
Another one bites the sust
The store I buy my tobacco at just got bought. Everyone is laid off on the 27th with possible reemployment at a far lower wage. That pisses me off. I’ve got a very small construction company, but gave the employees my number as I could use some help with paper work if not general Carpentey work. Just pisses me off when someone with money comes in and ruins it for everybody. I wish I could come in with money and build and start a business next door. All the regulars would easily come in and say fuck that guy.
