Got an anti work question- I’m trying to keep my staff from further screwing over one of my staff. I’ve got an employee (K), long story short, before K worked under me, had surgery and company rushed K back, K’s currently in pain. Since K started working for me I want to get the workspace optimized for ergonomics, only problem is K’s chair, current one exacerbates conditions. We easily have the money to accommodate, but jumping through corporate red tape, we’ve hit a snag, my staff is on 50/50 home and remote work. As it’s remote the company policy won’t allow for the chair to be bought. My position is that when K’s in the office, I (as the company grunt) am responsible for him. If J’s in the office 50% K’s further in pain Half the week making K less productive and more likely to need future treatment/accommodation. K…
How does that make any sense?
Life expectancy continues its decline in the US of A. This started before COVID and will continue. Meanwhile, retirement ages will likely rise. US men live only an average of 73.5 years now and retirement will eventually be older than that. “In addition to deaths caused directly by Covid-19, a jump in drug-overdose fatalities has been blamed partly on the pandemic. Overdose deaths climbed 16% last year to 107,000, nearly double the number of Americans killed in the Vietnam War. This has been driven by fentanyl and other opioids.” The Chinese now live longer than Americans. “The US ranks just ahead of Cuba and close behind China and Turkey, with an estimated life expectancy of 78.2 years. That compares with average life spans of nearly 87 years for Monaco and around 85 years for Japan and Liechtenstein.” Life expectancy for the blue collar class in particular has been declining for…
my quitting stody
Setting: it's the beginning of November. Only a couple weeks till black Friday. I see people posting their quitting stories and I love reading them!! So here's mine: I worked for a shitty video game company as a manager. I started out as assistant manager, my store got shut down so they moved me to another store with a demotion (with promise to promote me). By the way they'd do this to me pretty much holiday season. Like good fucking luck. My pay was similar and it actually taught me the ropes so I wasn't upset. I was quickly promoted to assistant store leader at another location and then less than a year later I took over another store with a promotion to full on store manager. It was great. Hated the job but they kept to their word. All good. Problem is. No training. At any point. I was…
My company last minute decided to revoke the week they gave us off between Christmas and New Years. They said it is mandatory unless some financial cost has already been accrued due to a planned trip. How is this ok?
I work for a large commercial construction company. We are union and fairly large; Probably around 70 employees. Company makes lots of money, one owner just bought a golf course. They have a silent policy that if you use sick pay that you get less of a bonus. I’ve used my sick pay and got $250 before taxes, and my buddy who makes just as much as me got $1200 and used no sick pay. And let me add that I am one of the top employers in the company, I bust my ass and work hard and always stay busy. I just think it’s fucked to base a bonus on if someone used sick pay or not.
I really just need to vent. I work for a major cell phone provider in a retail location as an assistant manager. I try to do everything I can for my team, especially keeping them safe. We’re in the Midwest and a snow storm just come through about 5 hours ago. I made it clear to my general manager I would not be driving once it gets dark and he told me he was completely okay with that and I needed to contact my district manager for a store closer. I had to argue with here for 3 hours about why it was important we close for the teams safety and well being. Her response was that our territory manager (who doesn’t even live in the area) “didn’t have the appetite to close the stores” I finally let her know that I have plenty of sick time and I have…
