Bank of Dave – Episode 1
I got hired at a local place to dishwash and they told me I would be making $10 an hour plus tips I did the math and yesterday they did not split tips with me so I only made $10 an hour. Today I had to take the day off because my cat was really sick and I had to rush him to the vet and they gave me grief about it so I'm quitting I don't know what I should text my boss to let her know I'm not coming in anymore.
Is it right to be disgusted by this?
I just need to vent. If anyone has anything to add, please do. If you don't want to read me complaining about my situation, please read no further. It is basically about the amount of work I do increasing, being promised a raise and getting nothing (well, I was offered a cell phone). I've worked here for almost 6 years. This is a small company (6 people work here now). I started out working the front counter which would be considered the lowest job currently here. When I started, there was also a part time delivery driver. This is a print shop. The manager also did the large format printing (we also have someone that does small format printing). I actually love this place and the people I work with. The manager though was terrible at doing large format printing. She would forget to do a job (when the customer…
Sometimes when you put together a post and some comments, people read them, and you come off to them as insufferable, so they downvote you. This doesn't mean everyone who is downvoting or disagreeing with you is a shill or a bootlicker. Everyone here knows that corporations are greedy and will always act (as a monolith) in the interest of its own profit. Everyone knows most HR and C-suite folks are merely agents of that profit engine, or should at least be treated as such and handled at arms length. All that being held true, if you say a bunch of misanthropic shit that feels like “God, don't you just hate it with your coworker exists and breathes?” you're going to get downvoted; you aren't being anti-work, you're being an asshole .
Even high paying Jobs are not enough?
Take it from the perspective of 30k-60k jobs. Barely getting by. Even for high-income earners 100k +, etc. Do you still feel you are getting underpaid? Not sure what I'm really asking, but if I am going to pursue a high end money making career, would I still be getting underpaid? Edit: 30k-60k jobs should be 50k to 80k, while lets say a software engineer getting 110k, they should really be getting 150k+ or something? lol
Fair Wage Small Moving Company
Hello Antiwork, it's been awhile since I've been on, as my account was 'mysteriously' disabled after pursuing and acting on subjects associated with antiwork. Anyhow, I've recently started a Moving Company and I pay my workers around 40 an hour. I did this following huge abuses of labor at the moving company I worked for previously. After much frustration. Lately I kept trying to find a way to put Well-Paid Workers on ad space, but it never sounded like it would appeal to potential customers (it shouldn't matter, since I charge less than big moving companies anyhow, but people are cheap-minded). Then today I was trying to find facebook groups to market to, and I remembered my roots of self-respect and respecting others in the workplace for full value – my roots being hugely embedded with the culture of this sub. I hope this finds a place in antiwork well.…
For the last few weeks, my place of employment has been experiencing several issues in which we have had a plumber onsite working on various sinks and what not. As of this morning, the sinks in the restrooms do not provide running water. My manager messaged the company stating that all of our buildings restrooms are currently out of order and we are not allowed to use them, therefore, we must seek “offsite facilities”. I am posting today to see if I can get any information regarding how egregious this is and whether or not this is grounds for me to be able to leave work without any complications. From my understanding, a few google searches have shown me that it appears to be an OSHA violation if your place of employment can’t provide working facilities / running water. For reference, I am in the state of California. Ultimately, I…
