So I'm having a work meeting this Saturday and I want to address a few things that I think are fundamental problems. There used to be a paper about sexual harassment posted in the kitchen, with some numbers to call and tips on how to behave. They decided to cover that with a list of things to do when we are slow. My point is that I think we need to be more vocal about resources for people who need them, and I feel like management is hiding those resources to protect certain people. How can I address this? And what additional resources should we have posted at my work? I want to stir the pot, and I want to open a discourse about the way we are getting shit on. At this point I'm not even worried about losing my job, I just want to make sure they know…
Avoid HRBP?
HRBP is trying to get some information from me about an injury. Is it best to keep avoiding them and just do lip service?
I had a manager ask me “What do you like most about working?” My response was “I don’t like working.” We shared a laugh and then she asked the question again…
Turning in LWOP for two months
I am turning in my LWOP for two months starting in February. I am hoping to change jobs in the public sector. I brought up overworked and too much caseload. My manager said it was 'policy' and cant do much. I even requested cases to be transferred out already as of yesterday. In addition, I found out more unfortunate information about my GI condition due to stress. Work can always replace you and its not worth sacrificing your happiness for work. Its not worth it to be stressed out including unmanageable workload.
I’m giving up
Quit a job last month I had been at for awhile. Management was horrible. Guy wouldnt even use my sick days when I requested when I had a dentist appointment. This happened several times. I scoop with no warning. I get to my next job. Horrible conditions. Not allowed any cell phone and hardly any breaks. Gave it up aswell. I'm not looking for a job. I was looking for a career. Now I'm going to finish writing my book and hope something nice does come.
Working two positions
I’ve been filling in for a position while I finished school to see if I liked what I was doing. I was told that the position is mine if i enjoy it and I just have to apply when im done with school. They waited a couple months so I could get familiar with the position (while I was finishing my degree) to post about it. Well, I graduated and applied for the position but got denied… I’ve been in a battle for the past month about it. My manager wants me to continue to do what I’m doing but I’m doing WAY for work for the position I got hired in. I’ve been weaning off of my antidepressants so I feel like how I feel is just chaotic. I’m angry and want to apply for a new job. At this point I feel like I am being taken advantage…
this guy know da way. the is no way
Hourly pay to Big Mac Ratio
In the UK the minimum wage at McDonalds is the national minimum wage £10.42/hr and the cost of a Big Mac is £3.19. So someone on that wage could buy 3.27 Big Mac burgers by working one hour. In the US the current minimum according to payscale.com is $8.47, but I will go with the average they report of $11.19/hr and the cost of a Big Mac is $5.81. So someone on that wage could buy 1.93 Big Mac burgers by working one hour. To recap the wage for 1 hour to burgers ratio is as follows today: UK: 3.27 USA: 1.93 The UK worker can buy 1.69 times as many burgers for the same time worked. Note that I was very generous in this. From the UK I picked minimum wage, for the US I picked average McDonalds wage. Edit: A correction. The minimum wage becomes £10.42/hr in April,…
This happened last Thursday. I worked as an inventory analyst at a major logistics company in NJ. After New Years they implemented a new attendance policy and supposedly wiped our attendance records clean. On Tuesday and Wednesday of that week I used sick time for the flu, and when I came in Thursday I was informed of my termination by my boss’s boss (“Tim”) due to “an incident” the week prior. I asked what the incident was and he told me to leave. When I asked again he called security because I was being “aggressive”. So I left. I hated that job and was planning to quit as soon as I found a new one but I wasn’t anticipating being fired. I’d been written up once a few months prior due to a mistake I made, but I hadn’t made any mistakes after that. My partner works with my boss’s…
