I'm 29, moved states with no savings a year ago and then met the love of my life. We both work hard, we both want to buy a house more than anything else, but we're already doing everything we can just to make rent. I'm constantly changing jobs due to poor treatment everywhere, I have no degree and have never been able to decide a career – just always get a job. She is a barber. I'm positive a mortgage wouldn't cost substantially more than we pay for rent, and I even think we can catch our credit scores up (or at least one of them). But how do you earn a down payment? Does anyone have anything that works? She can't work two jobs (fibromyalgia makes the one she has hard enough) and when I get burnt out I become depression incarnate so sustainable options are it. So in my area we were expecting a big snow storm, about 8″-11″, so my job told us we'd run based on whether or not the schools closed. The schools closed last night and we were told it would be a “work from home day” today at 9p last night. Today I get up at 9a and see a message from 730a saying the roads aren't that bad and we need to go in to ship pallets. Majority of my team that is scheduled today isn't able to make it in at this point, and I don't plan on going in either based on principle. Why do these company's think they have the authority to change your work schedule on a whim based on whatever they need to fix at the current second based on their previous poor decision making?
An “Anonymous” Survey?
My company recently hired a 3rd party marketing company to do an anonymous survey of its workers. Mostly geared toward how we see companies in general in the same line of work. Typical useless info that the company already has with a sprinkling of company feedback. The kicker? One question asks for your role and a second asks for your postal code. I've read enough posts about surveys that end with the company finding out who is posting what. Not gonna be apart of that.

I got this new job and everything was GREAT except they were only offering 10 Days off, 3 Emergency, 5 Sick. During the interview process I asked them if I could have those 5 Sick as PTO instead because I was coming from a place that I’d have 23 days off the following year and that if I was sick, which I rarely get, I could still work from home as we are remote. I currently work in a casual zero hours contract role, where its understaffed with its busiest days friday and saturday being and just one person managing ticketing for events and cinema screenings. People tend to not want to work those shifts aswell because of the day and nature od how busy it can get. They've offered us a contract with guaranteed 24 mins hours providing that we at least work 4 friday and saturday evenings each month. We would have to reapply and reinterview aswell. In the new contract the rest of the week seems slightly unclear as to how they will create the rota but each shift is a minimum of 4 hours. The contract doesn't mention anything about sick leave or holiday, so I asked them more about how that would work because currently it seems like they're banking on one person to cover those shifts consistently but…
I work as a legal assistant. Our office has about 8 legal assistants and about 12 attorneys. On top of that we are supposed to have 2 people in front desk/reception area: 1 person is an actual receptionist taking calls and the other person processes new cases. They’re supposed to back each other up if one of them is out. Well we used to have those positions filled until the actual receptionist quit. This left the person processing new cases handling the job of 2 people. Besides that, this person got promoted to be a legal assistant and she can’t leave that reception/front desk position until the office finds 2 new people. We’ve been short staffed since August of last year. This caused more workload put on all the assistants because we essentially become backup to the front desk person. Daily Tracking Form
What can be a reasoning for a daily tracking form? i was just handed one along with everyone else. Do i have to fill this out if the form is not in the employee handbook? it feels very childish.
This is a past story from a few years ago when I was living in my hometown. I used to bus tables for a brand new sports bar, shifts were often 12 hours long. I couldn’t stand the management and ownership, bunch of phonies who pretended to care about your life before making you do busy work. My cousin was getting married and I gave them two weeks notice I wouldn’t be able to make it to my shift as I had the wedding. I knew better than to find cover, thats not my responsibility. Management ended up calling me wondering the hell i was, told them I was at the wedding like I told them. Safe to say they weren’t happy with my decision to choose a wedding over cleaning tables.
