I quit a job about 10 days ago and I've been waiting on my last two checks. I went up there on Feb. 9 to get the actual check on the day I was supposed to get paid and I was told no it'll be next week. Next week (today) rolls around and I'm told the same thing. “It'll be next week because it's a two week pay cycle.” The last check I got was for pay period 1/8/23 to 1/21/24 and I was paid on 1/26. For the pay period of 1/22/23 to 2/4/23, the pay day was 2/9. I checked my bank statements and lo and behold, no deposit from my place of employment. I texted the guy I worked for and said I think I'm missing a check from this pay period I should've been paid this day etc. “Call our accountant” This is the first time…
Paid In Advance
I work in a diner and this last year I worked as a server and as a cashier. Cashier is a different pay rate, but recently the last few months I’m being paid a week before I work. So if I work over this week he says I’ve already been paid for this week. Yet I’m so confused with my check and hours now, he makes no sense when I ask why I’m being paid before I work my hours. How’s this benefit him, it’s not only me it’s other positions as well. Is it to keep us confused?
Is “Tip Withholding” wage theft?
My sister works as a server at a restaurant owned by a family that also owns four other restaurants and a sixth currently under construction. Several weeks ago, restaurant management told employees that the IRS audited them because one of their employees went to buy a car and told the dealership that while his paystubs said he made $X per week, he actually made $Y more per week because of tips. I don't at all believe that would've triggered an audit. I think it more likely would've happened because of, say, a construction loan for the new restaurant. “Because of the audit”, what they are now doing is withholding 20% of all servers' tips from their checks. Payroll is done by, you guessed it, someone in the family. I've told my sister the tip withholding seems illegal, and every employee needs to file a claim with the Department of Labor…
Do you guys really give a 2 week notice?
I’ve been on my own and working for 4 years now and have worked thru the ass end of the pandemic. i started at a pizza shop during covids peak and it was miserable. the people were cool and became very close friends but the work was HORRID. ever had to make 30 pizzas and 100+ wings in 20 min for $8.50/hr? picture that type of stress for an entire year. i started as what they call an “inside” which is basically cooking the wings, sandwiches, the other stuff u order at pizza places that isnt pizza. it was during spring/summer and was hot as hell itself. for 8 hrs i worked with fryers with a hood over them barely ever working. and to top it off the place had ZERO A/C and we relyed off of fans. cat im talkin we’d have to step out in 90° F to…
I'm looking for advice from fellow professionals. I'll make a long story short. I recently started applying for a new job in my industry. I'm a graphic designer, and quite good at what I do. I was put through a rigorous interview process that took a few weeks. Passed everything with flying colors and got an offer. Rewind a month prior. I rebuilt my resume with a buddy of mine who is a copywriter at an ad agency. I designed a beautiful template, gave him my information, and allowed him to work his magic on the writing portion of the resume. I attended a college for a few years, but didn't actually complete a B.S., but he included that in my education (assuming that my few years there meant that I had a degree). I was instructed to always add that I at least attended school for some time on…
I was told this might fit well here
A store at the mall hired me for a part time associate position. I had my interview two weeks ago and was offered the position 8 days ago and that’s when I filled out the paperwork online for my background check. I called the store yesterday (Wednesday) asking for an update and my manager said my check was at 60% complete on Monday. I still have not heard back. Most jobs I’ve had, my check was done within a couple days. I have no criminal history, never been pulled over. Anyone have any idea what’s taking so long? Edited for spelling
Boss dodging my raise requests
My job has a policy of co-creating a new job description with you once you start to guide your work. I went over a year without this document in hand, after pushing it they started working with me to create it However, a few weeks ago a new budget for our organization was determined which that handed me responsibilities beyond my current role and scope. In particular, development related tasks that require a high level of skills and expertise. After bringing up my concerns, I was told my job description which was initially framed as an internal learning tool was provided without my knowledge to an external HR firm who “determined” my salary was adequate. Had they been transparent, I would have catalogued all my tasks for proper review. Since then I have brought it up once with the supervisor, who is the head of our organization in person, sent…
