So essentially what the title said. Friend was on the move going location to location to install equipment and someone tried to rob him. They shot at him, but thankfully he came away alive. However he did get a bullet in the leg. And he said his company wants him in on the weekend and they were upset he didn’t notify them right away cause he was busy, I dunno trying to not bleed out and save his own life. Are there any labor protection laws around injuries on the job or short term disability? Cause they’re being dicks
I am exhausted and rightfully so. 24M. The past 6 years has been a continuous fight. I’ve worked in 3 different states. I have been in food service, Detailer, service electrician, appliance technician, and now I’m in a white collar job doing full time night school in accounting. It doesn’t seem to end. I have been putting in 40-60 hours every week since I was 18. I have been working since 16. Once I turned 18 everything just came crashing down. Increasing costs of living, bad circumstances, fights for raises, skill learning while working full time, and so much more. I’m breaking. I’m 7 months into my new job and I thought I made it. But, I’m having to do DoorDashing to make up the differences. I’m looking for a night job in appliance repair for a more set income. Everything continues to get more expensive. My rent doubled (…
Guess who won't be giving a two weeks notice in about a week
Liked my job for ten years…
I recently had my yearly review. I was injured at work in Dec 2021 and am still recovering. I am a member of management-albeit the lowest paid and least valued. I’ve always known this but it didn’t really bother me until now. This year I was informed that my yearly raise and bonus had been effected by my “health” and “inability to perform my full duties” for the past year. Obviously this was a shock to me, coming from a company I had busted my ass for for 10 years and hurt myself on their property. To make matters worse, I accidentally happened to see the pay increase and bonus letter for another manager-who has been around less time than me and does a shit job-to the point that he’s a running joke even to the boss. His raise and bonus were definitely not effected by that. The unfairness and…
If we as a society don't hold Norfolk Southern accountable for this then it's over. We lost, plain and simple. This is the corporate country, and the rest of us are just in their way. We do nothing about all these mass murders. We do nothing about police murders. We punish workers and use government intervention to do so. The rail strikes in December they were trying to get better wages/ better safety regulations. They still are using breaking systems from the civil war! They fuck with us over and over again and this time it feels deliberate and insulting.
Edit: I mean in the context of the US
Hey r/antiwork, Today I found out that in a week I will be laid off. This is after a several months long project our team has worked hard for. I was the main person behind it in our area, and we are finally in the home stretch. Except, I'll literally only be here long enough to see day one. And that's it. After that, my position doesn't exist anymore because 'our company has to cutback and reevaluate' and 'we appreciate the work you've done to make us who we are' as if the miniscule money saved by eliminating this role won't put your profits up enough to keep up with mass staff unhappiness. I work in a specialized industry that pays less than Target for highly sought after skills. And now I'm just wading through the waters of either applying for something that pays less and hope the severance is…
