I am required to use PTO for any absences, including jury duty!

This past weekend I was graced with a jury summons in my mail box. I’ve been summoned before, and was happy to take time unpaid away from my retail job at the time! I currently work full time in an office. Per the employee handbook, you cannot take time off unpaid until you have used all of your PTO to the negative balance allowed. PTO must be used for ANY and all absences, to get you to 40 hours per week, before time can be taken off unpaid. I asked if there were exclusions for jury duty. NOPE. So now I just have to hope really hard that I am not selected to serve on a jury, as I will be forfeiting the very minimal PTO I have and hours I have yet to earn! Yay!

Boss made me feel guilty for calling in sick

I work as a receptionist at a law firm and yesterday at work I started getting body aches and chills and pushed myself through the rest of the day because 2 weeks ago I was sick and took a half day and the next day off so I was scared to tell them I was sick again. After I was off I went home and just went straight to my bed feeling feverish and like I got hit by a truck. I texted my boss that I couldn't come in today and she didn't respond with anything. Later the big boss, the owner asks me to call him and I do (he's a family friend and the one that got me the job in the first place) otherwise I would usually just ignore it. And he tells me that everyone's saying I called in sick again and how it's unacceptable…

my assistant manager lit into me now I’m suicidal.

I have a lot of reasons to want to die. A lot. But this really messed me up. I'm 30 and I've never been insulted or singled out like this. It was for sure a personal attack. I have so much anxiety about continuing to work there. I want to straight up quit but I don't think my conscience can do it

Just got written up

I shared what my raise was with my co-worker and immediately got chewed out and written up. Told next time I would be fired. How is that legal?

How to respond: Work may be ending their WFH agreement

My wife has a medical history that prevents her from driving. As a result, we have always carpooled to work and she has pursued opportunities that were convenient to my commute. 3 years ago when COVID-19 hit, we both were sent home to work. A year ago, they began a gradual return to office and she was granted a waiver to stay home due to her circumstances. This week, she was informed that her co-workers will be returning to office full time and that all waivers will be reevaluated (read: “denied”). She has been a model employee and the organization has had good years and she has had good performance reviews while working remotely. There have even been times when her working from an alternative work site have benefited the team. Unfortunately, based on our current arrangement, she will be unable to return to the office. What is our best…

Micromanagement Creates Conflict

Recently I had a supervisor go out of her way to call me out for not doing a certain project. I told her I had at first but she was adamant that I had not and this person micromanages everyone under her. I asked her to send me the file so I can see which ones and she told me other supervisor had the file I went to the other supervisor and she told me oh no we found the file and it was EXACTLY WHERE I SAID IT MIGHT BE someone moved it from my file to this one and the last modified wasnt me who did it. This all came about after a meeting where I had to talk to the big boss in DC and get chewed out and NO ONE APOLOGIZED nobody else got in trouble only me. But I'm 3 months in and now looking…

This feels illegal, but probably isn’t.

I work for a Fortune 500 company. I don’t have an office. They consider me a “remote” employee. But I don’t exactly work from home either. I teach safety classes in an area that covers 4 states. I travel all the time. They just notified me that I will no longer be paid for my first hour on the road. This is now deemed my “commute” time. The same applies to the end of the day. I won’t be paid for the last hour on the road on my way home. I usually drive 3-4 hours one way. That’s 10 hours a week of free labor. I’m pretty salty about it. Anyone have input on the legality of this policy?

Aflac is a pyramid scheme, consider yourself warned!

AFLAC (American Family Life Assurance Company) is an MLM. I thought I took a great job with a reputable company about 5 months ago. I have since learned that Aflac is an MLM and is extremely close to pyramid scheme territory. Not only this, but they only hire contract workers, and they give you the “You are your own boss” pitch. The group interview is run by one of their more skilled sales reps selling you on the idea that you can find success just as easily as X or Y person has. The products themselves are good insurance-like products, but the actual business practices are horrible. It is not that easy, and they will exploit your labor. The roles are commission based, however, a majority of the work doesn't involve actually selling insurance but attempting to get business owners to allow you to implement Aflac at their business. I…
