Work burnout – how to bounce back?
I work in IT, have been with the company im with for almost 4 years. Started off in their intern program and got hired on fulltime. When I started everything was great, my supervisor seemed like someone I could turn to for support and mentorship, encouraged me to continue learning etc. We got close, not to the point where I told them my life story but where I had started feeling comfortable confiding in them etc. Supervisor isn't as technical as they led me to believe and I started to out perform them and have to FIX their mistakes. (I also have a technical BS in Cyber Security which is a huge hole on the IT roaster) Things were great until after my one year review. I started to notice the Supervisor getting short with me, becoming less willing to help in areas of the business unfamiliar to me, i…
one year review 6 months overdue
I work at a hardware store. Tomorrow I am finally having my one year review. I currently make $11 hr. I am in receiving/inventory/stock management. (I am not a manager, but i have told by my manager that it is 'my department' but I think that is just something she says to make it sound important) So when we have deliveries, i check them in, count them, i handle returns, and contact corporate/warehouses when there are issues, etc… I live in PA. $11 is like minimum wage, honestly. I do have insurance through my work which is great, but if they do not give me more than a $1 increase tomorrow, I will be finding a new job. Living paycheck to paycheck is unacceptable. With inflation it is hard to live comfortably this way. $1 still isn't enough, but less that that would be so insulting. And advice? What I…
I worked for a moving and delivering company. They were planning to send me on a move over 7 hours away from home and then added deliveries on top of the massive move. This isn’t the first time they’ve done something like this. When I told my manager today would be my last day he informed me that without giving a formal two week notice that my final check would be at minimum wage. I’m in Texas which is an At Will state. In my onboarding paperwork there is a small paragraph about the “policy” hidden in the rest of the paperwork.
Hardly working
He told me “we can’t have you sitting around” implying that I do nothing all day… so guess who’s doing nothing today!
Maybe fired because of doctors note
Well, here we go again. I turned in my doctor's note saying that due to the fall I can't lift over 12 pounds. Thankfully I was smart and waited until my job coach could come with me, because oh boy. HR isn't happy. I was told that until further notice from a doctor, I am not to work. Without pay. I was sent home after being asked why it said return to work slip, why I didn't say anything and they can't accommodate me. If it isn't changed, they'll let me go. Besides that, guess who decided not to file my fall with workers comp? So now I have no record of a n y t h i n g. They tried to imply I don't really need the accommodation but it's a liability if I got hurt so they can't have me working. Lovely. Granted, I do get they're…
Boss *may* be committing wage theft
As the title says, my boss may be committing wage theft but I'm not entirely certain, thus I beseech this subreddit. Some background, I've worked as a host at a restaurant for a grand total of two days now, and the pay policy for hosts at this particular restaurant is that we make 7.25/hr but get a small percentage of tip payout. However, according to my boss, hosts in the “training period” do not receive this tip payout. Yesterday, that being my first day, I did receive actual training and most of my time was spent familiarizing myself with the responsibilities and layout of the building. Today however there was no such training, I simply did the job in its entirety, today also happened to be incredibly busy, and so the people receiving tips and tip pay outs earned a lot of money. I was not one of these people,…
