I worked at a job where it was expected to basically never sleep and work 60+ hours a week. Yeah making 30K a year anyone with common sense left, including myself. One of my last interactions with my boss before I lost it and told her I ain't showing up was when she was calling me lazy when I took a SINGLE day off the first time in 6 months due to the sheer exhaustion I felt. She really tried to gaslight me that i was a lazy no good. I thought about it hard: why is is so socially acceptable to constantly be sleep deprived and tried? It is not lazy to want to have a full night's rest and thus a good quality of life. Waking up and actually being cognitively aware of where you are is a human right. People wear this like a badge of honor…
There is proof that I’m being docked, my paycheck hours don’t match my time cards, There is proof that i did my job and worked my full 8 hours (cameras all in the shop) My sister is the person who writes my checks, the one who docks me, the one who bullies me (she picks on me personally when shes mad), lies and says “i dont work” and uses that as an excuse to dock me. I go to my dad (the owner & boss) about every situation that happens, (the docking / bullying) and nothing gets done about. Today he told me not to come into work because theres too much drama revolving around me, and he says he doesn’t have time to deal with it.. but wont fire me. I have plenty of texts from him stating these things. By the books i am an electrician, i make…
With WFH becoming a thing, my company thought we should be obligated to work during hurricane force winds. The hurricane is literally going to be right over us and we still have to work. Apparently, in the past, when WFH wasn't a thing, employees had to make up any time they missed due to the hurricane. It really is all about money. They don't care about us at all.
https://www.tuc.org.uk/join-a-union Based on your industry it will show you the unions that you're eligible for, with quick summaries of each union and a link to their site so you can find out more. It's a really useful tool for anyone who's thinking this union business sounds interesting but hasn't a clue where to get started… which, given the climate in the UK at the moment, is probably a fair few of us. Fees for most unions start at around ~£8. Some vary in price depending on how much you earn or whether you're full or part time. Some unions also have even cheaper brackets for those in apprenticeships and those who are unemployed.
Now there are over 200. Including the flagship location in Seattle. I no longer see derogatory references to slacker Millennials only capable of being a barista at Starbucks. Funny coincidence, I'm sure. A lot of my parents and grand-parents were in unions. I'm happy to see American unions growing again.
As people may know Florida is currently getting battered by hurricane Ian as well as other nearby states in the path. I've never been terribly educated on the labor laws here but I thought it was a no-brainer to call off any work that requires you to go outside even just to drive to an office because, as someone who's lived here my whole life, I'm pretty used to storms and hurricanes but still understand the danger just the strong winds can pose. Last night I saw a state of emergency was declared and today schools are closed and my family member who works for the government was told to remain at home, which makes sense seeing the debris littering the road this morning and hearing the wind rain and thunder last night. Now, I drive around a ton for work and often have to work outside but as I…
With the price of everything raising across the board, even dairy products when we know millions of gallons of milk product are wasted to keep the prices artificially high to begin with? Things that usually hold off starvation for the poor, potatoes and shit, everything going thru the roof. Record profits.. Doesn't seem like anyone other then the low end consumer is paying the price, The Citizens spent a lot of effort to bail out these big corps yet there was absolutely no reach around. I'm beginning to think this is a temper tantrum being slung by the top tier corporate overlords upset about recent changes in labor culture, the reappearance of union favorable sentiments./
Healthcare in the US is awful
As a member of the Choctaw Nation I get free healthcare. It absolutely blows my mind that that isn’t the standard everywhere. I have friends who cannot go to the doctor for anything because of how expensive it is. I don’t know how regular Americans make it in this economy without universal healthcare.
