Quitting my 6 figure job today
Happy Friday the 13th. I’m burnt out of my company and industry (finance) and have been considering this for years, but only recently understood how important it is to prioritize my mental health. I’m knowingly committing career suicide, and I’m okay with that. No 2 week notice, just light the match and burn the bridge. I’m still relatively young, I’ve been working in this field for the last 4-5 years, but I don’t want to keep working 12+ hour days in front of a computer screen until my eyes hurt and putting in extra hours on weekends. I don’t want to keep dreaming about spreadsheets and income statements. And frankly, I’m over passive-aggressive and demeaning colleagues and management. I’m privileged to have savings, stable housing, and a supportive partner. Life is short, but careers are long. Today I’m putting myself first.
The absolute truth.
Late pay because of closed business
A buddy of mine just started working for a clinic and he just found out his pay will always be delayed if the day that he’s set to be paid (the 15th) lands on a Sunday, because that day the business is closed. It’s also being delayed because of MLK holiday the day after that. Is this normal? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
why is there no wage theft AI
All the AI controlling our world and there's not one i can submit my paystubs to and it tells me if there's a discrepancy from my employer. Its the biggest form of theft in the US from what I understand but it seems like anyone with the capacity to create such a tool are choosing not to. I know why it doesn't exist but i wish it did.
Ever since the pandemic started I have only been applying to 100% remote jobs and so far I probably have around 1,000+ job rejections. Even low level remote jobs that only ask for a HS Diploma, fast typing speed, quiet quiet work space, and fast wifi will reject me. I haven't even gotten a interview request at all. Even if I do get a job offer I look up the company only to find out they are a MLM or a scam. I've re written my resume dozens of times even have ChatGPT write my resume as well as some cover letters and still get rejections. I don't know what it is or what I should do. But how can I stop getting so many job rejections?
An external recruiter for a company I’ve applied for reached out to me. We had a call, and I told him my expected salary is around £60,000, he sent me another role that has a starting salary of £75,000+. Since £75,000 is the “minimum” starting salary for a job that’s asking for 5 years minimum experience, and I have almost 8 in the respective field and skills, is it appropriate for me to go back to the recruiter confirming my interest whilst also informing him that I’d like to ask for more when opening negotiations. I feel like this is an obvious desire, but I’m not sure if I should explicitly mention it to the recruiter. For context, it’s an SDE role based in London where I’ll be the tech lead of all current and future projects. My experience comes from mostly a single job I’ve had at one company…
For the past year I have been working on a project that has changed the company I work at and has created tremendous value for it. I came up with the proposal, presented it to the executives, and have built the entire infrastructure of this project from the ground up. It has positively impacted both our customers and anyone who works with the company. I have a lazy manager who doesn’t like to do any work, they just like to sit around and go into our work slack channels to talk about their pets or a recipe they tried. Half the time, they’re not even showing they’re online. They barely even touched this project or managed the people working on it. I have the proof for all this, too. Guess who is getting all the clout and praise from everyone? I thought, maybe if I work hard and show my…
