My company uses the phrase all the time. I am an employee not a team member. Sure, at times we work as a team but I'm here to support my wife and children, not make your bottom line look pretty for investors. The term just seems manipulative and condescending as if we really were valuable members. But actions speak louder than words.
How the school system failed me.
I just walked out of my minimum wage, coffee job. I've been struggling with my kidneys/having a 2 month long antibiotic resistant UTI. Third round of antibiotics. Still no results. I started having kidney stone pain but on both sides. Throwing up, and shivering. I asked to go to urgent and the supervisor said to talk to the managers that are off the shift. So I phoned and texted one. No answer, texted the other one and got left on read. So I walked out. The supervisor was very condescending. “You've been doing this alot” “do you not have any preventative medications”. I regret nothing.
A daily reminder
Here is a genuine email from my old job a year ago as a sales telemarketer for Angi Inc / Angie’s List.
The other day while I was at work I said the f word followed by the name of the company. Apparently one of the assholes in management overheard me and wrote me up. It’s such a shit company too.
